6.5x47 bullet

Freebore aside what is the heaviest bullet you've had success with in a 6.5x47. Used to think 130s we're about Max I know a lot of guys are using 140s anybody tried the 150 class bullets

I shoot 142 accubonds. just moved and all my data is misplaced. Have my reamer print and my load data... somewhere. I think velocity is 2750ish and i'm seated way out there.

I have shot 142 SMKs and 140 Hybrids. Both shot very well. My current barrel likes 135 Hybrid Hunters so that's the current diet.

Bergers book shows a COAL at 2.80. I know this irrelevant but from this perspective 2.750 wouldnt be way out there. Bullet designs are different of course. But with a .163 freebore I am at best 2.740 with a 130 VLD target. I have found 1 bullet that I can seat out to 2.820 in the 130 category only. My eperience. I am not happy with the VLD targets at 2.740 as there is too much bullet in the case neck/ powder column. They will not seat farther without jamming and then, not much.

Best shooting heavy for me is the Berger 140 Hybrid at 2770ish, the 144 LR Hybrid does almost as well but has a better BC.

0.166 freebore. 1k benchrest LG, 28" HV contour barrel. RL16 gave me 2820fps with the 153.5 Berger and shot 3-4" at 1000yards for 900 rounds before the barrel was torched. No free lunch!
RL series powders and barrel life that starts with a 1 seem to go hand in hand, but damn they shoot some good ones don’t they!

140 hybrid, 140 Elite Hunter, 142 SMK for plinking.

I ran them all through AI mags with lots of room left in a .167 freebore.

All that being said, I wore out a couple of barrels with 130 AR Hybrids and Varget and that’s where it’s at for me.

Second barrel, I have calmed down and am running normal pressure loads and it's looking like it'll go 2x more. the 6.5x47 is just so strong that the only sign you'll get is heavy bolt lift and some brass smeared on the bolt face. Primers and everything else will be fine.

Your COAL which is irrelevant, must have been in the 2.720 range as a guess. Do you have any idea where it was? Just curious.

The 6.5-47 is not the issue with 150 grain bullets, it will shoot them albeit it slower than the 140s and 130s. But shooting one accurately depends on the twist rate of your barrel. I have a 6.5-284 and wish i could shoot them but not enough twist. Check your twist and look at what the bullet maker suggests.

Right about 2.92 actually.

This may be true. I'm at 5000ft. elevation so a lot of things just work for me up here. My barrels are 8 twist Krieger 4 grooves.

I'm sure there is a practical balance for every cartridge.
130s for 6.5x47L
140s for 260AI
150s for 6.5x284

Anytime you're not near center balance there will be a growing compromise of some sort.

I've got a .163 and I just don't see how it is possible. 2.920 with a .166 fb?
I jam them fairly deep. Maybe 0.020 or thereabouts. That said, I'm just going off what Jim told me the reamer had. Perhaps he was mistaken and it was longer. Have you worked with the 153.5? It's a pretty long pointy bullet with not that much longer of a bearing surface compared to the 140s:
