Safety Reminder Raccoons

Neighbor has been feeding coons in his back yards for years. About 6 pm yesterday he goes out with cat food and fills the bowls. Somewhat the high light of his day. He’s 78. Yesterday he was filling the bowls. A bitch coon, must have thought he was going to take the food. Bit his left first finger where it joins the hand. Hospital, shots and more shots. He’s ok. He destroyed all the feeders and brought me 30 lbs of cat food and said what John Wick said. “Kill em all.” Now I have to go into full pellet pusher mode. He said just just give me any details.

Cats and dogs make better pets than coons.
Hasn't he considered that?
I don't know why he felt like he wanted to feed those varmints.. I always wanted to say don't do it, but he shared stories of how they would feed and wait for him to put out food.. He sure did a "380" on them after he got bit.. His wife let out some words that she doesn't normally use... And now I have to go into full combat, thermal kill 'em all mode.. Hate it for 'em but I got a sweet little pumpkin (dog) and guess who gets protection.... Guess I better look at SCDNR rules...

you need to be around domesticated coons instead of wild creatures. domesticated coons imo are some of the best most interesting pets you can buy.
Domesticated coons, never heard of them. Probably in the same isle at petsmart as the domesticated lions and tigers.

I have coon hunted a bit in years past. If folks knew what they are capable of they wouldn’t think they are cute.
Sorry the old boy got bit, made it to 78, figured he may have learned a few things by now. Never to old to learn.

We feed everything (except the Coyotes) which the coons chase out of the yard.
Momma coons are bringing the babies around for solid food (cheap dog food).
Yes, they are WILD animals.

My best friend got bit by one and had to get rabies shots for a month. I got tired of trying to trap one on my property, then gave in to the dark side. A half cup of Golden Malrin mixed with grape juice in a pie pan got him. No tracking necessary either. He didn't move 3 feet.

I had a raccoon that came by almost nightly in the late 1990s. It was a neat critter. Small female, we started to feed it Raisin Bran cereal like we used to leave out for the skunk. It loved the raisins, then hubby grabbed a handful of seedless grapes. Rolled them to her. Boy that was a hit! After a couple of nights rolling them, he held one out between thumb and forefinger. And she came over, reached out with her front paws and took it from his hand. Ran back to where she started, put it in her mouth and with he head vertical to get all the juice, ate it like it was a huge treat. A few weeks later, he handed her an egg. This time she held it between her front paws, bit the end off and drank the egg by lapping it out of the shell. So if she came by she got an egg and a small handful of grapes.

i had a coon as a kid, he turned kinda spicey when he became a man and we let him runnoft.

Plus side here is you make out like a bandit. You get 30lb of free cat food and a bunch of nice coon hides
to bad coons aren’t worth anything. the fur buyers around here for the last couple winters have refused to even buy coons.

Gf had one at he bird feeder the other week and thought it was adorable, uuuuuntil it got in hee petunias, and guess who's a licensed trapper word of advice if you use cages put a sheet of plywood under them or set it where you do t care about the yard getting torn up. I swear these thing will make mud out of dust and will destroy everything within a 2' radius of the trap.

Will say though find it strange how people are . I see home owner who think I'm cruel as all get out for trapping and hunting , but the second a possum kills a chicken a coon or skunk gets into here flower bed ect they're all game for for killing every thing that moves. Had one lady cussing out a racoon as I loaded it up and wanting to know if I was gonna "make it slow" and I'm just here like " lady it's a raccoon he was just doing what he does chill out he's getting released on my property, the heck is wrong with you ?"
