Air rifle accuracy issues crosman TR77nps

The problem with the break action guns like the OP's are that the scope is on the action and there is a hinge connecting the barrel to the action and if that hinge does not close the exact same every shot will be a different POA. They should have mounted the scope on the barrel. I went crazy trying diiferent pellets, trigger, bedding, cleaning the barrel, etc. and finally gave mine to a buddy to shoot squirrels off his porch at 15-20' then it dawned on me what the issue was when I saw him cocking it. The Ruger 10/22 takedown has this issue if you don't put it back together with the same tension your POA will be different.

Ladd Slinger, nice group. Springer vs PCP is like Red vs Blue in the political world. I shoot my .177 TX200 almost every day at 25 yd's indoors. I shoot a lot of groups the are 5 shots under .150 and some that are well under .100. Outdoors at 50 yards a different game. I have shot twice 1/2 inch for 3 shots at 50. Conditions must be better than perfect. One thing I found out was 10.4 vs 8.4 made a big difference in accuracy outdoors. I think for a steady diet at 50 yard's I might need a .22 with minimal tuning to maintain velocity while shooting a heavier pellet. Might even cross to the dark side and try a PCP next summer. I do not use the artillary hold but shoot it just like a regular firearm, front rest and rear bag.

There are break barrel air guns that lockup like a bank vault. You won’t find them at Walmart for $89. Then there is the underlever springers with no barrel breaking. Look at Weinrauch, Beeman, and Air Arms.
Photo is a 5 shot group at 25 yards. It measures .142 inches. This is a cherry pick group. Most are .250 - .350.

Very nice! Yeah I guess my Gamo put a bad taste in my mouth. Cost about $300 and it is the least accurate firearm of any kind that I have ever owned! Can shoot better groups at 25 yards with some of my hand guns. Lol!

Other ones I had as a kid weren’t too great either. But to be fair I’ve never owned a nice quality springer. Thought the Gamo would be nice but I was wrong. Also really hate the fast sharp recoil felt on my face with a springer. Painful to the cheek. Pcp has virtually no recoil at all. If the sun is at a good angle, I can watch pellets flying downrange all the way to the target in the scope

The HW98 and FWB 124 are quite accurate with the scope mounted on the action. It may be an issue with the lower end guns but the better German guns it is no issue at all.

I have a gamo silent cat. After about the 4th scope i put on it now its pretty accurate. Gotta check all the screws on the gun and mount plus good oil in there. That all helped out a bunch

PCP is so much easier to shoot it’s ridiculous. Gotta have good trigger mechanics and follow thru like with every rifle but my pcp is way more forgiving. To even get a decent group with my Gamo, every single step in the shooting form and stock pressure points has to be absolutely identical every single shot. And then it feels like someone slaps me in the face every shot because the spring has so much recoil on my cheek.

With virtually no recoil or sound on the pcp with the DonnyFL Shogun, I can call any shooting mistake perfectly on target. Just such an absolute joy shooting a pcp rifle. Shooting my AV Pcp vs. my Gamo Magnum springer like the difference between shooting a nicely timed BAT action with BnA trigger, silencer, and subsonic ammo vs. shooting with a factory Savage action in a large magnum round with no muzzle brake. It’s night and day difference

I was at the range last Thursday shooting my Weinrauch HW35E. The more I shot the worse it got. The rifle has always been a tack driver. I was about ready to wrap it around a power pole. I decided to pack it up thinking maybe my scope had taken a crap. As I was packing up I found the action screw laying on the bench. Vibration had caused it to completely unscrew its self. I spent this afternoon with Loctite blue on my four springers.

Springers aren't for sissys, that's for sure. I shot in a 10 meter bench league last winter that mandated you shoot the rifle off your shoulder with no type of rear bag or rest, only a front rest. I got pretty good at it. But, when I went back to 25 yards with a front rest and rear bag I had to relearn, it was frustrating until I got in the groove again. Springers demand good bench manners.
Thanks, I’ll do that.

It could easily be argued that a good springer is the best accuracy improvement for centerfire shooters.

The difficulty of learning the new skill is what appealed to me. My old archery hunting buddy has been into springers for about 10 years so I figured if he could learn, so could I. Best thing I did was starting off with a good gun and having it professionally tuned from the get go. I knew my equipment was capable, now it was up to me.

This is the way for sure. Trying to improve your skill with a gun that wont hit a can twice isnt going to help

Break barrels, unless German made are just not accurate.
There seems to be a fair number of guys that shoot pcps and"airguns" here..
I'd love to see a section on this forum for air rifles... The "other" forum ( wont name" but it is just a bunch of constant marketing.) This place would well managed and keep the dominant brand and their fan boys out..

This is how daystate and brococks shoot. 50yds is fairly boring. Ive been shooting 75 lately. Its good wind training. The electronic firing system on the 3 top daystates is truly a work of art. Nicest trigger ive ever pulled on any gun period

Very nice rifle for sure.. Best made that I know of.. Daystate Triggers are just "switches", probably not that hard to get that "nice." I shot a Daystate in AZ at dealer.. They are absolutely amazing well built rifles and just as smooth as silk.

Not all the daystates are electronic, only the top 3 models. The high end non electronics are some of the best triggers made. If you like a traditional type squirrel getter the huntsman revere is flawless- wood and metal is perfect, and they have that fine trigger
