Society in general is to blame for most of it. We have culturally shifted in this country over the last 30 years or so. I’m 40 so I’m assuming it’s been goi g on prior to that. However I can see some large shifts with culturally appropriate and accepted things in my life.
Victim culture is present. Most students (I’m a teacher) have the idea that when they have done something wrong, they are not at fault. They’ve been fallen victim to the issue. Yes even the “good” kids. Many grow out of this at they age but it’s present it nearly every single child I teach. And I’m in a very good community with a lot of “red” on the voter slips.
Social media. Have you really sat down and looked at what’s out there? Instagram reels and TikTok’s of people being pretentious and narcissistic. How much attention do we need? Kids can’t handle this. They either try to become accepted this way or they burn out looking at it. Dopamine is produced in levels that young adults and kids can’t handle. By the time they’re in the upper teens they’re numb to a lot of things. Yes even the good kids. Kids that have mental problems are even more effected by this.
The unwillingness or inability of people to discuss mental illness. FERPA laws restrict much of what is able to be said about students. If a kid was out with COVID or was a close contact we can’t say who because of it. So when mental illness comes into the picture it’s swept under the rug like a cockroach and hidden. Parents of kids with mental illness or adults with mental illness don’t want to be labeled or treated differently or in some cases don’t understand they have it.
The fact that a juvenile record disappears when you turn 18. Some of these murderers that have committed mass murder with a rifle wouldn’t have passed a background check if they’re juvenile record was included in the background check. “Have you ever need adjudicated mentally defective” is a question on the 4473. Many of them have, answer “no” and because it happened when they were juveniles, nothing is found. Even adults that have been clinically diagnosed with a serious mental illness can get past this question by answering “no” because of privacy laws. It’s absurd that’s something that isn’t looked into.
Depression is more common now than anytime in history and starts younger than it ever has. Why? See above.
Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about “redefining” what age an adult is. I think it’s a logical thing to weigh. On average, 18 year olds today are much less mature than counterparts 30 years ago or farther back.
As we all know the gun isn’t the problem. It’s social paradigm shifts that are creating this mess.
It’s also an agenda the liberals have been trying to win for ever. They use every tradegy they can to fulfill it.
If they actually cared about people dying in this country they’d be looking a lot harder at drinking and driving fatalities. In 2020 11,654 people died due to alcohol related traffic deaths. That’s 32 people every. Single. Day. All year. But they don’t care about those people.
Make no mistake the agenda is what this is all about. I wouldn’t be surprised if some left wing extremists aren’t some how creating situations like Uvalde and Newtown to further strengthen the argument.
