Todays Rant!!

I just threw away one hundred 300 WSM Norma Brass. 11 firings. Looks like headspace issue, but I have a body die for every BBL to keep things straight. I checked headspace on them tonight before I sized ...... .0015 headspace. Double checked with scotch tape....slight crush fit with 1 piece tape on back of case with firing pin removed. (tape is .0015 thick). Noticed the ring as I started to size. Been checking this way FOREVER !! 1/2 the brass is showing the telltale ring above the web!! Ran the borescope through a few. JUNK!!

I HATE NECK TURNING!! At least I found it 2 weeks before the matches at VT instead of the night before I leave!!

Rant over.

Tod,
Long time no talk too…… been in that situation myself before with the exception mine was the day before I left for a match!… Glad you caught it before you was on a record target!…. Hope you have the components to get you back in the game buddy. Best of luck on your upcoming match

6% of the brass is a given lot# is softer than others. Check for rings on all the brass, cull the ring'd brass. This may help you get through your match.

Best wishes!
I scoped 10 pieces...5 with visible outside rings and 5 without. All 10 showed visible damage with the scope in inside. I save some To use to make sure my neck turning equipment is still set right. I have different turners set up for every caliber. (300 WSM/.334 300 Wby/.334, ETC)

I had about 200 22-250 cases that I lost count on how many times they were loaded. But once one had a head separation a few others also started to. The inside check is the most reliable way to determine if the case is close to separating. Once this happens it's time to retire the entire lot. No sense in wondering if the next round to be fired will experience a separation.

If you are loading pretty stout loads in the WSM and you got 11 firings, then it would seem you had your monies worth out of them.
The 300 WSM I believe in near 64,000 PSI so resizing and firing 11 times isn't bad. Be a puppy upper, not a doggie downer, (:):)) at least you caught it in time to prepare for your match.

I varmint hunt with a 65,000 PSI case and neck size only and I do better than 11 reloads but not much.

That has to be some kind of a record!
Just talked to him 5 min ago. he grabs 40 pieces of new brass when he screws on a new tube. He shoots out a tube every year just screwing around shooting pigeons, yotes, etc. 3500 to 4000 rounds a year....10ish a day, every day....365. He retires the brass when he retires the BBL, and the brass shows zero signs of wear and the PP's are tight. Not sure of his loads now....but they USED to be 6BR ish for speed. He always has at least one new tube ready to go.

But....he is FRENCH...so he is a cheapass!!! Only explanation I can think of.
