lets see your Magnetospeed setups.

I planned on doing all of my tuning this year with a chrono. BUT.....Labradar's are non existant, and I REFUSE to tune with my Magnetospeed clamped to the end of my tube. I have seen what 1-24th turn of a tuner does to groups ....adding a few OZ out past the end of the tube can't be good.

I have seen in the past where some guys have rigged up a device that screws/bolts onto the stock and does not touch the BBL. Anyone have any pics/info on how you did it?

Hopefully the SNOW/RAIN/FLOOD"S. ETC will ease up enough to find someplace to test!!!

Thanks,
Tod

If you shoot precision then shoot/tune till you find your load, and then use another batch of the same to see how fast they are with magneto installed. Thats what I do but more for my hunt rounds so I can make dope charts.

If you push your finger on the magneto when it is mounted on anything then it will move a hair. When the bullet shoots over it the air pressure will make it move and excerpt pressure on the bullet. Thats why on my barrel mount it shoots a few in high. The big question is does the magneto excerpt the same pressure every time for precision shooting. I say not.

For those seeing POI changes with an off-barrel mount.

It is recommended that you start your initial testing with the bayonet offset 2 -2 ½ times your bore diameter. Adjust the magneto speed sensitivity on the display screen to determine what works best as you move the bayonet away further from the bore. I use sensitivity settings of 7 or 8 and position the Magneto bayonet 5/8”-3/4” offset to the center line of the bore when shooting my 6XC (.243” x 2.5=.6” offset). Bullet composition and diameter will influence the setting of your bayonets’ offset. This larger amount of offset will eliminate the zero shifting encountered when mounting the bayonet ¼” away from the bore.

If I do that with more rubber shims the whole thing is wobbly. And that stupid backwards pull latch..jeez you woulda thought that they could have come up with a cam lock!!! not complaining it is still the cheapest and accurate way to measure velocity. After I am done bullseyeing!

I guess i should have specified....... tuning 1000 yard bench gun.....no bipod....no pic. rails. shooting off of a front rest. I will say that I have no issues drilling holes and attaching to the end of the stock since it is damaged anyway.

That sounds like a huge oxymoron to me!

That's the slickest setup I've seen yet,can I ask where you got the front piece that mounts the bayonet to the rod,or did you have it custom made?
Thanks,
Jeff
Made with 1" carbon fiber tube, 1" scope rings and a small section of picatinney rail. I drilled the rail and and screwed it to the bayonet. Simple. Even works with my suppressor.

Wiser precision

There is no pressure exerted on the bullet as you say.

sounds like "ground effect" for landing a plane
