who makes the smallest 300 wsm die (base size)

pretty simple
who makes the smallest dia base of the current production sizing dies.
my current die , a redding, is not quite small enough to get a true bolt free drop.
a very minor closing is required and works
but
i would like to get smaller without getting shorter
thanks

Maybe too late but a bigger chamber reamer sounds like the ultimate cure, if off the shelf dies won't size ther brass down enough on the diameter. The PPC and BR guys have been down this path with reamers spec'd around virgin brass. Bad idea is all.

That said, how much is the die sizing it? It'll be tiny so you'll need a good micrometer to get a reliable measurement, rather than calipers.

RCBS 17601 Series A Full Length Die Set, 300 Remington Ultra Magnum

In my experience RCBS Dies have sized cases smaller than Redding. Try before you cut. This is if you don't want to touch the shoulder or neck. Grind a shell holder or trim the base of the die if not small enough.

i do not understand your reccomendation. this is not close to 300 wsm...smaller at the shoulder and base. i need smaller base

i did the stripped bolt sizing to the bolt dropped free. i got close..but not a free drop. the bad news is that when i measured shoulder set back it was about .015 shorter than spec, and still needed more. this aint good.
this is just a min spec 300 wsm with my free bore. but both norma and adg have the issue. they use to make a small base die but quit..just what i need. i can shoot with the long setback but me thinks it aint healthy for brass life.

so backing up to confuse the picture.
i have 2 rifles chambered by the same smith with the same reamer...so the chambers are close but no guaranty they are identical. match rifle and fire form rifle (new to the picture)
two lots of brass norma and adg.
i started shooting with norma, matches, reloading all ok, then got the adg, and the plan is to fire form in the second rifle.
today i reset the die for the norma brass and the match rifle. very light closing pressure, ejector in place.
i resized a adg case and it is larger than the norma in the same die/setting and hard to close bolt. not a big surprise different brass. i need to fire some more adg brass and try another die..wilson ids available and see what happens.
thanks i will let you know how it goes

You may not like the price, but Warner dies are superb and can be anything you want them to be. I have a Warner sizing die with inserts for .284 Shehane and .300 WSM. They are as close to perfect as is currently available.

@Uthink Uknow makes ring dies that size only the base.

The 300 RUM and the 300 WSM have the same base measurements therefore using the 300 RUM small base die you can size the base smaller and not have to worry about bumping the shoulder back too much. Could even grind the shell holder and not worry about shoulder bump, but this calls for an extra step in the sizing process. I believe this is what is meant here.

but they do not

Mike,
When I was looking for second a die for my BR-A I called Wilson and talked to the tech whom shared with me the reamer his die was based on ( jgs wheeler #1) however he would not share his resizing reamer specs.. moving forward or as it turned out the Wilson sized slightly more than a Harrel’s 2.5 , even better for me as I promptly sent three fired cases along with the die for an in between size I wanted. Long story shortened ‘ lol’ the die was honed at no charge other than postage.
Point being.. they were very helpful
Jim
