i do not understand your reccomendation. this is not close to 300 wsm...smaller at the shoulder and base. i need smaller baseRCBS 17601 Series A Full Length Die Set, 300 Remington Ultra Magnum
In my experience RCBS Dies have sized cases smaller than Redding. Try before you cut. This is if you don't want to touch the shoulder or neck. Grind a shell holder or trim the base of the die if not small enough.

i did the stripped bolt sizing to the bolt dropped free. i got close..but not a free drop. the bad news is that when i measured shoulder set back it was about .015 shorter than spec, and still needed more. this aint good.Maybe too late but a bigger chamber reamer sounds like the ultimate cure, if off the shelf dies won't size ther brass down enough on the diameter. The PPC and BR guys have been down this path with reamers spec'd around virgin brass. Bad idea is all.
That said, how much is the die sizing it? It'll be tiny so you'll need a good micrometer to get a reliable measurement, rather than calipers.
if someone just had one in stock! The Bullet central micron die. I have Redding, Wilson and Bullet Central. I had clickers with after a few firings even with a Redding small base die till I got the Micron die.

pretty simple
who makes the smallest dia base of the current production sizing dies.
my current die , a redding, is not quite small enough to get a true bolt free drop.
a very minor closing is required and works
but
i would like to get smaller without getting shorter
thanks
The 300 RUM and the 300 WSM have the same base measurements therefore using the 300 RUM small base die you can size the base smaller and not have to worry about bumping the shoulder back too much. Could even grind the shell holder and not worry about shoulder bump, but this calls for an extra step in the sizing process. I believe this is what is meant here.i do not understand your reccomendation. this is not close to 300 wsm...smaller at the shoulder and base. i need smaller base

but they do not and the shoulder is smaller so it might deform rather than size my brass
i'll pass...look at saami specs and move up to the body/shoulderJust checked Wikipedia and if anything the base is .001 smaller on the RUM and rim is the same.
