Will a M70 WSM action hold and feed a 6.5 -284 ?

I own a Winchester model 70 wsm short action and I’m wondering if it will hold a 284 case in the magazine and feed properly with the rails cut for wsm ? Does anyone here have any experience with this ?

You would need the bolt reworked or replaced first.

I know I’d have to replace the bolt but I’m wondering about the rails. I’ve mostly talked myself out of the idea already but I still wonder.

Are you after a dedicated target rifle, or a hunting rig? I've been tempted to rebarrel mine to something like 257 WSM or similar from time to time. Plenty of good short mags to pick from if you're a hunter.

Too much case. I think the 284 is really too much but I think I can work with it.

I think it was 1971 I bought a L579 Forester action, barreled and chambered it to 25-284. It was one of the best hunting rifles I have ever owned! I can't remember if I did anything to the rails or not? It would hold and feed 3 rounds with no problems. loved that little rifle. But I shot the barrel out several years ago. Thinking now about a 25 creedmoor.
