Air Rifle vs 22

Nope. Of course I like to shoot 6PPCs at 500 yds against all those BRAs Creedmores, 284s, 300WSMs, etc.

I like older units too, I have a Beeman R1 in 22 that is awesome, and a Silver Streak in 20, and sometimes it suits me just fine to plink. So I get the, "Gun and Tin of Pellets", spirit. Have fun.

I shot my first air gun match tonight. I found a club about 15 mi from my home that has been shooting indoor bench matches all winter at 10 meters. They shoot a 25 bull target that looks like a typical 50 yard .22 target except they reduced it it size....A good bit. 25 bulls plus sighters fit on an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper. 10 ring is very small with a tiny dot in the middle. I snuck up on them, I shot a 250x16, no one else was clean. Great group of guys, pretty friendly, I had a good time. They had 2 ladies making delicious chip steak and fried onion sandwiches along with homemade baked beans. Came home, wiped the rifle off....no cleaning....no reloading to do. Wonderful.

Man id love to stumble onto something like that

I did stumble on it. Now the owners of the indoor range I am shooting at are talking about adding a springer only air gun range on the upper floor to go along with the archery range that is up there now. I think as this component squeeze continues more shooters will refuse, like myself, to be held hostage and get into air guns. And once again, no reloading and no cleaning.

This is the target we shoot indoors at 10M, aperture sights, front rest only, no rear bag. The dot in the center is the 10 ring and has to be shot out to score a 10, if any part of the dot is left it’s a 9. You better be able to shoot 498-99 if you hope to win, five targets, 100 possible points each.31B7C35E-C93A-4CEB-A775-CE9DA4EE6F59.jpeg

The air gun match uses the no rear bag rule also. I am going to try to talk them into dropping x's and scoring 11. It gives you a chance to come back from an errant shot thus keeping more people in the game. X's are from another era, time to move on. Everone is shooting .177, some hot .22 Springer will come along then we will need airgun UBR, lol. That's nice shooting for irons. Not sure I could do that anymore. They do limit scopes to 12x. Couple of guys sneered at 10 meters. I offered to let them use my rifle, you would have thought I handed them a rattlesnake.

I organize a winter adult air rifle group. We shoot the above target (AR-10) from 3 positions and occasionally, standing only. We have to give the local high school team some competition. Mostly we shoot the A-17 from 50 feet and shoot 4 position, just like we did when we were a smallbore club. Our first season, we had one bench-only shooter with us. Wish he would come back. We have not been able to grow our group much (Covid didn't help). A few local shooters will scoff when we tell them about shooting inside at 10 meters or 50 feet. Very few of them come and try it. Those that do, often don't return after they comprehend the level of difficulty to shoot a good score, especially from all positions. All of us shoot other disciplines in the summer. The skills translate directly.

I agree, I hope we can grow a group here. Although I learned years ago those who have the desire to do the work and invest some money, will surface. Trying to get guys started with lots of effort on your part is seldom rewarding. I make the offer to use one of my guns and give it a try one time. If no response I allow them to go back to the TV remote, less taxing on them. I love to compete, but if need be it can be against the target and myself.

Our indoor group has a lot of fun. Just as much fun as we did when we all shot smallbore, only cheaper. We lost quite a few shooters when we transitioned from smallbore to air. I think most folks didn't want to invest in a rifle they "couldn't shoot outdoors."

Our group is small, we shoot airguns indoors in the winter and 50 yard rimfire outdoors in warm weather. The sad part is that I'm 61 and the youngest shooter of the regulars, I can only think of three times in the last five years when someone younger than me shot with us.

I usually shoot one of my Feinwerkbau (springer) 300S's indoors but do have a Feinwerkbau 601 SSP that will make the guys with 4k PCP's curse. For the most part we all shoot older rimfire bench guns, I shoot Winchester 52's and a 40XB. We also shoot sporters, 8X max magnification.

Shoot straight! Justin
