Air Rifle vs 22

I did not want a PCP. Too easy and still tied into an air supply. I went with a springer, Air Arms (England) TX200. 825.00 plus 225.00 to have it tuned. I shoot indoors at 25 yds. It just makes a hole get a bit bigger. Much like shooting a 6 PPC at 100 yds. No cleaning, no reloading, pretty quiet. .04 cents a shot with premium pellets. Half that with cheap pellets. I can 't wait to get outside to 50 yds....and more. Google the TX200, beautiful walnut stock, trigger now at 6 oz. 7.00 a gallon gas, ridiculous components, don't care.... I will have fun in the back yard.

Me and a buddy both have Weirauch Hw100s in .177. We have the good ones with the real solid steel barrel. (Not the crappy FSB fake thin walled tube inside a pipe.)

This spring we plan to try them for a back yard PRS match between us.

As for 10 yard accuracy they are both insane accurate with good pellets. I shot 14 rounds and a pellet would not fall through the hole in the target.

Since most of my shooting is indoors, I have the velocity dialed back to 500 FPS, but for 50 to 100 yards, I'd need to crank it up.

Also I have never tried air rifle slugs, but I'll bet for what the op is interested in, I'll bet slugs would make a huge difference.

The reason we both have Weirauch Hw100s is two fold... First is the solid steel barrel (with the models we have) and reliable POI. Second is the Weirauch Hw100 dont double feed a pellet like almost every other repeating air rifle. You'd be surprised how often that happened with the FX Dreamline. Since PRS is bolt open then move, it increases the frequency of double feeds and even unclearably jams when a partial double feed does not fully exit the mag.

You cant double feed the newer daystates with the magnetic cover on the mag

Shooting my TX200 at 25 yds gives me the same size and breakdown of 5 shot groups as shooting my PPC at 100 yds. I shoot them both free recoild but diiferent front rests and different style and fill in bags. Actually 25 yds has gotten boring. Can't wait to get outside and shoot 50yd. No loading, no cleaning. Less than 400.00 including tax and shipping just got me 16,000 premium pellets.

What did you buy?

Interesting that you bought 4.51mm head size. Last year when I bought my .177 TX200, most recommended 4.52 or 4.53mm head size. What I found through testing is that my rifle likes 4.51MM best.

Ah, something wrong with the both of us, We actually did the work. You know, bought the pellets, many varieties and spent the time testing them. Air gun shooters are just like powder burnners . Read what someone else did and regutgatate it. Of course odds are that's what that guy did also. Txs are a lot of fun and will sure teach you bench manners. Oh, bench manners don't matter, can't box them and sell them. Only problem is no competition in my area. Have a friend close to buying one, if he does we might try to get something started.

Every so often a squirrel will piss me off enough that I am tempted to buy an air rifle. I was looking at Hatsan rifles on amazon. Seems like they have good reviews and bang for your buck. I bought a gamo gun close to 20 years ago now. I had a similar experience. Thank goodness Walmart had a liberal return policy.

Diana 34 - ex scope killer; tuned down by cutting some coils off the main spring; vibratite vc3 on all the screws and in the scope rings; foam bedded action; torque tuned; Hawke AirMax 4-12x40 with honeycomb filter; H&N Field Target Trophy 8.64 at 750 fps to .25" groups at 25 yd; 12 squirrels down who have tried to make my attic their home.

Diana 240 - built to shoot indoor silhouette at club (10-18 yd) without destroying the pellet traps and knocking all the targets off with one shot :) ; all the same tweaks as 34 right out of box; cheap Simmons 4x scope with parallax changed to 15 yd; initially launched JSB Exact 7.33 at 525 fps to 3/8" at 15 yd; put the old barrel pickle (damper) from the Diana 34 on it and it is now one enlarged hole at 15 yd.

My next one will be a TX200, but after that I'll be looking at PCPs.

Skip the TX200 and go straight to a low end Air Arms PCP. You'll thank me later.

Springers are a labor of love. For the mid and entry level rifles, you have to lock everything down with loctite, vibratite, or whatever your poison, or it will drive you nuts and kill your scopes. The lighter the rifle and more plastic used, the more you better lock everything down. Any heavy stocked, quality built springer can be tuned and locked down enough to shoot pretty good. "Lightweight" is not a positive attribute in a springer regardless of what the marketing department says. If your the impatient type or hate gunsmithing, a pcp might be a better option, though they have their own pros and cons.

Well I visited Airguns of Arizona yesterday. I‘ve been reading and watching videos and had pretty much settled on an FX impact. I wanted a 25 caliber or 30 caliber so I can thump the coyotes and foxes that come around the house.

When I asked about the FX impacts the salesman, who might have been the owner, said they stopped carrying that brand. When I asked why, he said he had too many issues and let the brand go. He highly recommended Daystate. No offense to any FX owners, I took it as a sales pitch but I was happy to hear what he had to say. Last night I watched several videos on the Daystate red wolf and delta wolf. The delta wolf has on onboard chronograph and a whole bunch of features that are based on a on board computer. I’m anti technology in this type of thing but after watching the many videos last night I am attracted to it. Comments on the trigger of both the Daystates I just mentioned were all very positive and so were reviews of the on board control systems for lack of problems and reliability. I do like the fact that I could change the barrels out on the Delta Wolf and have multiple calibers. Definitely not a cheap route to go but I have a couple extra NF scopes sitting in the safe which would help soften the blow. I think this might be a hobby where it would be a good idea to just cry once and be done with it. Only danger is liking enough to convince myself I need more.... lol.

Anyways, this thread has been good. I need to finish up my 22GT project and then I think it’s time to dive in. I’ve been wanting to for years but have avoided it just because I know how I am.... it’s a deep rabbit hole.

Well in the back of the gun magazines there used to be a fully automatic bb machine gun that ran on compressed air from cans. A coworker had one and brought it to work with about 2 gallons of bbs. We quickly adapted it to the nitrogen tank for extended firing. Remember the carnival game you cut out the star with the Thompson style bb gun. It was that on steroids. We shot in half every cardboard box in the shop. Just like a buzz saw . The spoiler was sweeping the parking lot, it was an ice rink with all those bbs scattered around. Alot of fun.
