6BR 13.5 twist

Anybody have experience with this twist?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a Krieger 13.5tw 24" on a Bat B action. It loves the Berger Columns. Also likes Bart's Original 66FB. This is my second 13.5 barrel, having put about 6K rounds through the first one (still shoots, just getting a little suspect.)

At a guess, about 80% of 5-shot groups are under .25" at 100yds. Half of the rest can be attributed to me (and, to save face, I classify the rest as "unexplained". I do have some false standards.)

What powder and primer is working for you?
I have loaded some with 10x, 5 with 7 1/2, and 5 with 205. Hopefully get to try them this week.

For short range with the Columns (or Bart's Original 66 FB) I run 31gr Varget at about 3100fps or 30gr LT-32 at around 3450ish. They both shoot very well. I usually run standard CCI small rifle primers.

Buddy of mine just had a similar rifle built, and is using RL-10x with Columns. Not sure what his charge weight is.

I had a 13.5 twist Bartlein barrel that shot 80 grain Berger FB bullets into very small groups using 8208 at 3100+ fps. A friend had the same success with that twist in his rifle.
I've wondered about the minimum twist for 80's. I'm certain it depends on the bullet and speeds but just approximate. I've read where others have had good luck with slower twists but have always steered to the side of caution. I worked with a bbl mfgr and recommended he do a 12.5 twist. Maybe a 13 is safe enough, though. I will say this, fwiw...bc favors a slightly faster than need twist rate.

I shoot 80's in a 12 twist and have had a fair amount of success with that combination. I was also fortunate enough to win a national level br match shooting 68's in a 12 twist. That'll never work, though!:D
