22-250 and a 7 twist anybody

I am going to build a 22-250 to shoot the heavier bullets and was going to buy a 8 twist for the project. I have a chance on a good deal for a 7 twist barrel to use instead. Am I going to be alright with a 7 twist or should I go ahead and get a 8 twist for the project?

Thanks,
Dan

My buddy has a 7 twist and shoots 65 grain S Gamekings for deer hunting. It is very accurate. His first 3 shot group with 80 grain Amax were all touching but the 65's are working well.

I have the parts to build a 22-250 Improved for heavy bullets. I bought a 6.5" twist barrel blank.

A buddy of mine swapped in a 9 twist for his Swift to shoot
the 90's, and he did have some blow ups early on. 3350 fps
kept them together. for his accuracy node. I don't think he
got any decent barrel life though.

im running 80gr smk at 3150 fps out of a 1-8t 24" McGowen in a savage 112 i could push them harder but dont want to burn the barrel up to quick

I have a buddy that shoots one in a 6.8 twist - 90 and 95g SMK's. Hell of a gun. It will explode bullets though.

Got a buddy running the 224 Texas Trophy Hunter. 8 twist with the old 80 grain Amax. He swears by it. I believe it is based on the 6mm Remington. Velocities should be somewhat similar to a 8 twist 22-250.

If you could shoot the 88 Gr ELDX a bit faster than the 224 Val with the same accuracy without grenading the bullet that would be something I would do...But I like doing stuff everyone says won't work.

We’ve ran 8s in 22-250ais for a while. This next barrel is a 7 twist. There are a couple things you can do to put things in the bullets favor of staying together. Shorter barrel. This reduces the amount of time that friction is induced on the jacket. A little larger bore. The barrel I’ll be chambering this week is a .2195” bore. Again, this is to decrease jacket aggravation. Plan for this one is a prs rifle for my wife so were limited on speed to 3200fps

I use a 7 twist Rock creek in a 22 creedmoor, very close to your 22-250 and I’ve only shot 95 SMKs through it at 3180 fps and it shoots great.
I also have an 8 twist that shoots 90 SMK good, but it will not stabilize the 95s in my gun, it’s a proof barrel, bad key holes at 100yds.
if your only shooting 90s the 8 should work.
I’ve not tried 90s in my 7 twist yet. I bought 1000 of the 95s, that will probably be the life of the barrel.
