That's a good bullet and a good load. I shot something pretty similar in my 7-08 Rem.788.

To me that sounds like the voice of little to no experience. Ruger quality is usually at the top of the game. I can tell you personal horror stories from many of the other makers. Browning, Savage, Volquartsen Remington, Leupold, Smith and Wesson etc. Firearms, scopes or whatever.
When the Number One came out, most everyone was pretty enthusiastic about it. I certainly was. The workmanship on those early Ones was damn good. The same was true of the early 77's. Those who had Number Ones were anxiously awaiting the new bolt action.
As I said, the quality was damn good. Checkering was excellent. The stock shape was nearly perfect. The bolt handle was weird! The angled guard screw was novel and it seemed, to me, to work pretty well.
Like all manufacturers, Ruger made changes, over the years. As with all manufacturers, these change were seldom made with the intent of improving quality and always made to improve the bottom line. In spite of this, Ruger has produced some pretty good stuff. I traded a Model 70, in 280 Rem, I had built, for a Ruger Number One and a Ruger 77 in 338RCM. There were things I hated about the 77 (short stock, poor checkering) but the darn thing shot well and functioned well. I reshaped the stock recheckered it then sold it to a short guy! The Number One was a donor rifle and is now one of my favored hunting rifles. WH

These two .22 sp101 revolvers I've had 20 and 30 years and shot countless bricks of ammo.They are among my favorite pistols.
As a bonus they are such bricks I can use them as hammers.the SP101 Isn't a light nimble pistol like a Smith .22 kit gun but I prefer them.

No love for Ruger, HA! They done me wrong a few years back on a very poorly made 1911 and I would not piss on them if they caught fire in front of me!
I have an old M77 in .243. Great lightweight rifle and my main antelope rifle. It is very tight and it shoots my handload .75" at 100. Too many hunts and meat in the freezer to get rid of it at this point.

Tricks in tuning Ruger tang and Mark II rifles are not well known.
A. Free float the magazine box-you want it loose between the floor plate and the action.
B. have that center screw only finger nail tight, or remove the screw entirely
Douglas replaced the barrels on a few of the Ruger Tang safety actions for me and they all would shoot 1/2" at 200 yards for hunting rifles. Douglas barrels in 22/250, 243 Win, 25/06, and 308 win. made the Tang Safety rifles shoot some very respectable groups. The Tang safety rifles had an adjustable trigger and I could massage mine down to 1-1.5 lbs for hunting.
I had a friend buy a Ruger Tang safety rifle in an odd ball caliber like 7x57. I met him at the range and the rifle was shooting horrible. I was watching him shoot from several benches away. He wanted to sell me me the rifle for cheap money during a rage. I asked him to let me tweek the rifle a little, and he said he did not care if I put the rifle in the burn barrel and set it on fire.
I took the rifle apart, removed the magazine box, and left the center screw on the table, then shot the rifle as a single shot. The rifle shot 3/4"-1 1/4" with Factory ammo, not bedded nor the barrel free floated. I saw this same issue in many of the Ruger Tang Safety rifles I purchased used for cheap money. If the barrel had any hint of a tight or loose spot with a tight fitting punch type jag, The rifle was mailed off to Douglas for a new barrel. 1/2" groups at 200 was our "normal" groups after load tweeking with those Douglas barrels. Way back then, every rifle got a 1/32 bullet jump from the lands(the talking heads had proclaimed that the 1/32" bullet jump to be magic.)

Rugers-- #! They shoot good after you seperate the forearm & nothing touching the barrel. The tang safety models are hit & miss on barrels. I scoped one of my better shooters & i didn't like what i saw. I am not going to. scope any more. New Blackhawks- I'm about 3 & 3 = in the 90's they were pretty cheap. I only had one 22, a SS single action. I didn't like it so i gave it to my sun=in-law. He likes it. I think Bill Ruger was one of the finest men in the gun industry. He gave us good guns at good prices- what more could you ask?

Much better carry gun than the sp101.
I never understood why they made the sp101 such a brick.its a nice trail gun but not much of for every day carry.
First Ruger was a bolt varmint .220 Swift bought back in 1975 used. Didnt have it long and was too inexperienced to be a judge on it. Bought a #1 in .22-250 new about 1983. Very pretty, wouldnt shoot to my satisfaction. Had two Mini 14's and 3 mini 30's. Wasn't looking for match accuracy but could not get any of them under 3" at 100 yards no matter what modification. I have two 10/22's that are custom except for the reciever. They shoot well. Other than that, Has a Ruger American sent back and was replaced. Junk. Sold it off after they replaced it with a new one without firing it. I like their short barreled single action revolvers. But, I am donre with Rugers.
