Chambering cost's and time required ?

Would like to know what it normally cost's to punch a .223 out to.223 AI and how much time is involved? The rifle is a Rugar American predator.

Chamber it for 22 Nosler...no wildcat...factory brass, available, fits 223 bolt. Or trade for a 22-250 run low velocity loads and barrel would probably last as long as high pressure 223 Ackley, with more velocity. Or leave it as a 223, probably what I'd do with a Ruger predator, with a factory barrel. JMO...

"I have an easy job for you ..." I love that statement from someone who does not know what goes into the h=job because if they did they would have done it. I would get this a lot when I did computer programming and often the hardest part of the job was understanding in extreme detail what they wanted.

Customers sometimes would get frustrated as I tried to nail down what they wanted BEFORE I did the job, otherwise I would be told in extreme detail why what I delivered was not what they wanted.

I beleive most gunsmiths, would charge you around $125.00 for a re=chamber job. But as many have mentioned there is more too doing the job right, than just "Punching it out". Talk to one of your local smiths and see what he says.

So to re indicate it in, possibly off some rough lands and grooves, pick up the threads again if needed and rechamber…. You think most would only charge approx 1/3 of the cost??!!
Shit if I would!

It takes as long or longer to rechamber a barrel than to do it from a blank. Add $100 to original price if they will even rechamber period

I've cut exactly 1 chamber so take it for what it's worth, but I think the amount of effort isn't going to be terribly different. Probably worse because you're dealing with an old barrel like others have said.

It'd be well worth your time, money, and investment to get a new barrel and have that set up the way you want it.

FWIW, I had three chamber jobs done at one time recently. One was a short chambered Rem 700, the other two were Mausers that I had purchased pre-chambered new barrels for. One was short chambered, the other long chambered. The ‘smith said he had about 6-1/2 hours invested in the three. Cost to me was $650 which is probably not bad considering. I bet they spent more than 6-1/2 hours on them.
