7mm-08 Powder

Praying for powder, but which kind? Have a Kimber 7mm-08 with an 18” barrel and wondering if I should try to attain the fastest burn rate possible for such a short barrel? Will only use this for hunting and considering h4350, h4895, and maybe even rl15,16, or 17. Thoughts greatly appreciated.

RL-15 & 19 always worked well back when I shot the 7-08.

I've shot IMR 4895, RL15, RL17, RL19, IMR 4350, CFE223, H414, PP2000MR in my 7mm-08AI.
Have done loading with Big Game for a friend.

Speed demon is RL17.
Most accurate was PP2000MR.

I use H4895 in a 15” Encore with a 120 NBT. Fantastically accurate.

I saw Accurate 4064 at one or 2 places on the web today. IMR 4064 shot the best with 150s in a 7-08 I used to have.

Well it would help to know what weight pills you plan to poke out of it.
Had good success with the cheapest Hornady 120 grainers and Varget....if you can get it.

However study of powder burn rates and loading manuals should put you on the right track.

RL 17 is the hot sauce. Once upon a time H414/W760 was some good stuff too, but IDK if that's available anymore.

H-100V , WW760, H-380 and StaBal 6.5 are also good powders with 120-145 gr bullets in the 7/08. Work good for me.

I use CFE223 with Barnes 120 TTSX in a Model 7 and it is a tack driver and will DRT any deer alive out to about 300 yards. I'm getting about 2900fps in an 18" barrel.

Reloder 17 is tops if you can find it. If it comes available
again, SW Lovex Precision Rifle powder. After that, AA-4064

Ram Shot Big Game with mag primers has worked great for me.

I’ve used Big Game, and have recently used 4064 with a new rifle. Both hunting rifles, both shot well.

Any you ve listed would work great. The 7-08 is not picky. You “might use a little quicker burn if you re shooting 120 gr or lighter bullets. 130 to 160 gr bullets will tolerate slower powders.

Don’t over think it. Good luck finding a power. ( I ve used powders from H335 burn rate to IMR4831 with acceptable performance)

IMR4064 has worked best for me with 140's and 120's. Big Game, IMR4895 and W760 worked well also.

Load light for caliber, speed kills with these. I've not seen a faster kill on a deer hit with a 120 HH.
