No love for Ruger?

I am a competitive shooter and have shot Remington, Ruger and Savage in production class matches.i can't say I scored better with one over the other.i do think savages generally have the better quality barrels.Ruger had some rotten barrels occasionally but I've had two bad Savage barrels out if the 15 or so I've owned.
My Ruger American 350 legend outshot my Axis 350 btw.I sold the Axis
Hated my axis. Sold it

My first ruger buy in 1972 was a 4 3/4” Blackhawk convertible in 45 colt and ACP. The barrel wasn’t indexed properly and to get a windage zero I had to adjust the rear sight way off center. Years later I asked if they could fix it. They said yes but they would have to convert it to a transfer bar system and send me the old parts. I said forget it and have never bought another ruger. Their decision my decision. Their stuff is good I guess but I’d rather buy a machined FN Mauser thank you.

It's lawyers fault not Rugers.
I had the same experience for a repair of my old flat top.i didn't send it

I had a 180 series Mini 14 in 223. The proverbial money pit trying to get it to shoot. Always one more thing to try. No telling how much I sank into it, but it finally came around and would shoot 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups off a bench with handloads. Thank God and Greyhound, its gone.
Still have an old 3 screw Blackhawk, sans transfer bar, and a 22/45 I should send down the road.
I have never owned one of their bolt actioned rifles.

I don't hate ruger. I've just never owned anything other than a few of their single actions which I've found generally dependable although a bit clunky. I have always thought their bolt action rifles are good but for my tastes there are better for the money. Their o/u shotguns were a bird hunters nightmare weight wise.

Ruger doesn't make beauty queens. They are tough utility firearms.i appreciate that they made them.now they are chasing AR15,1911 and "precision rifle" market they will I fear loose focus on what made many of us(non ruger haters) like them.

I love them! I bought my first Ruger…an M77 in 30-06 in 1984…I was 20 years old. During the next few years I bought a 22-250, 6mm REM, 300WM, a 10/22 and a Mini 14. I had very little money back then and the thing that sold me on them was the integral scope rings that were included with the gun. With the Rem 700 you had to buy rings and bases and The gun was a little more expensive also and I just didn’t have the extra funds. They’ve all been hunted hard, killed a metric shit ton of deer, and shoot great for my purposes. It would be great to have the old Rem BDL or CDL 700 in all those calibers but I’m very happy with what I have.

I had 6 of the old Ruger #1's, horrible barrel quality, tricky 3 point bedding system, trigger stinks. I had a Ruger #3 in 22 Hornet that shot bug holes with 50g Nosler ballistic tips and Win 296.

I have one Ruger 77 Mark II in 270 left that has the skeleton stock, stainless.

Didn't read many of the posts, but...the absolute hardest (feeling) kicking rifle I ever shot was a Ruger 77 in 7mm Rem Mag back in the early 80's.

Really good articles in most recent "American Rifleman" about Ruger and their purchase and production of the first Marlin/Ruger imo.

These days new shooters have it made.In the mid 1980s when I graduated from HS a fiberglass stock was 3 or 400 bucks, there were only about 3 custom triggers available for bolt actions and "good" factory hunting guns shot 1.5 moa with factory ammo. If you wanted benchrest /target type loading stuff you'd better know a bench shooter to figure out who to call and order it. Or have a subscription to precision shooting. And there were very few people that knew what neck turning was, glass bedding , crowning barrels ...all of that stuff. Now somebody just puts in a Google search listens to some YouTube "expert" that listened to some other "expert" and they become an "expert"...
And somebody complained about a Ruger once so they are all bad....

Ruger guns are hell for stout and will last many lifetimes. I have to admit they're not always the most accurate but they are more than adequate in accuracy and occasionally they there is good as anything out there. They are not my favorite.. I only have about 20 Rugers.
But if I had to go running to the woods right now and take one gun that would last and never fail a ruger would be on the top of my list. One of their 77 bolt actions,#1,Mark 1 or 2 .22 auto or a single action or double action revolvers .Heck even one of their clubby P series service pistols.
