22-250 AI no turn reamer specs for Lapua brass?

Looking for the right reamer print or specs for a 22-250 AI no turn for Lapua brass. I don't want to deal with the clickers or having to polish out a chamber a bunch. Is it at the .200 area that's the problem or it and the neck size?

Specify CIP spec to the reamer manufacturer.

You will want the .200 diameter .4695" and a SAAMI neck diameter should be fine.

The way to be absolutely sure is to buy your brass and measure it.

I wouldnt do a saami neck unless you like .002 clearance.
I just recently loaded some 22-250 lapua brass and there mostly .253 loaded.

I much prefer .003" as my minimum. I have never understood the tapered neck in a modern bolt rifle, so why not call it .256" no taper and for that matter why the 2° throat instead of a more typical 1.5°?

SAAMI and C.I.P. specs are the same for the cartridges I've compared, I've compared them for a 22-250.

I think Lapua brass is mfg closer to the maximum spec than some other brands.

One of the things that can cause confusion when comparing SAAMI and C.I.P. drawings is where the measurement is taken. On a SAAMI 22-250 drawing, one of the body diameter measurements is taken .200" from the base. On a C.I.P. 22-250 drawing, what might appear to be the same measurement is taken .1268" from the base. Since the case is tapered, that makes the SAAMI measurement smaller.

That's good advice as long as the chamber is cut large enough to let the brass expand to a point it can be resized. Been down that road a bit with some real disasters.

I can see now that the .2695 @.200 as you had said is about right for a starting place for Lapua brass. CIP is larger in the back end and has more body TPI. About the same at the body/shoulder junction forward. I can also see going with a CIP spec reamer will also work well with the exception of the neck if you want .003 clearance.

When I researched this several years ago, I came to the conclusion I would have to spec a reamer myself and have it made, and then after chambering, have a custom sizing die made, as I just didn't trust all the cip measurements to work with the Lapua brass I had in hand.

However, this was my thoughts and I could have made errors along the way.

Edd, when you measured your Lapua brass, how much over web dia on the brass did you go with the reamer spec?

Do you get bolt clickers on your top end loads?

I was hoping not to have to do that this time around Most dies don't size enough at the .200 area and over size at the body / shoulder area. Thinking of calling Whidden and asking what reamer print their 22-250AI is best suited for or just send him some FF brass to try out in a standard die. If it's a little heavy on the lower end that will ease up a little as the brass work hardens.
edit: Whidden does not do a standard 22-250AI die, So I'll have to look elsewhere.

CIP is larger in the back end and has more body TPI.

CIP and SAAMI look the same to me. The only difference I see is rounding errors when switching between mm and inches.
