Remington Model 7 Side Bolt Release

I’m not sure Carlsbad provides this service, I inquired several months ago and he said no at that time. I in the past I have purchased stops from Defensive Edge but not sure they make that particular one any more. There was a smith here on the site with Dresden Gun Works (think that is correct) who did this install using stops from Vudoo Gun Works, but I don’t know if he is still doing work or not. The problem with the Model 7, 600, 660 and even the XP100 is finding a stop short enough to allow bolt to be pulled back far enough to clear the magazine well. On the XP the short is required to eject a loaded round of 308 case length. Shorter case such as PPC and BR can probably use the more common length. It’s been several years since I chased a short enough stop for the Model 7, perhaps someone has solved this issue. The Wichita Machine stop used on their actions is another option.

Makes sense. Hadn't even really thought about the model 7 being a shorter short action basically.

You might try Straight Shot Gunsmithing. I think I have read something about them installing Defiance bolt releases in some Remington actions. I have a Defiance Model Seven length action with a side bolt release.

I did one on a Grandson's 600 in 6x47L and it will not eject a loaded round. I use the Anschutz bolt releases as they are very slim and cool looking.
Was it installed back far enough? The one Gre-Tan did on my XP-100 is almost at the far end and it'll eject the spent round ok.
