Does anybody still think the 40x is special?

I had one , way back no biggie at the time .
Have some fine New SS Single Shots Tuned well .
I think they are Gems thinking of the price .
That said they ant know Barnard …

How about a 1975 Rem 40X rimfire sporter? Not the best grade, but up one from the basic? There is one in a safe very nearby and the only wear is a little bluing missing from the end of the bore. It is flat out pure sexy. :p

I have never owned a 40x so I really don’t have an opinion. But I do have a question: When you say “special”, do you mean really super duper cool special? Or short bus special? There is s big difference…

I know a Gentleman Robert Lungrin from Rockford ,Illinois.
Going back 40 years of Shooting NRA Cross the Course Matches , His 40X Rifles in 7.08 did well .
If you go to Camp Perry in the Trophy Hall Robert’s name is on a number to Trophies more than once .
He also set many 3&4 Poisson Small Bore Records .
Robert is a big Fan of the 40X .

My 40X's were never 1/4 minute rifles in stock form. My 6x47 was a 3/8 agg shooter on good days. It would, of course, produce the occasional sub 1/4 group. This was stock, except for bedding. Later on, restocked and re-barreled, it would agg in the low 2's under match conditions. On calm days, in practice, I could stay in the ones. In the late seventies, this wasn't bad shooting.
One of my better 40X's was a 10 1/2 pound 308. I could never agg under 1/4 with it but I did come close and once had a low-2's agg going then blew it with one shot in the last group. The recoil always got to me sooner or later with this one.
When I bought my first 40X, it cost me about 400 bucks which, at that time, was about ten days pay for a sawmill worker. About 2800 of todays dollars, I reckon. The new 24 Leupold scope was 125.00. WH
