30BR using LT30 powder

Since I can't find any H4198, please tell me what yall think of the Lt30 powder and how it compares in loading weights
with the H4198. I usually load 108 to 118gr bullets with 34.2 to 35grns of H4198.
Thank yall for any help and data.

Jeff , LT-30 powder was the go to replacement for H-4198 for me and it didn't achieve the consistency I was looking for. I shoot a full case of H-4198 and pretty much the same with LT30. It's a compressed load with either. I know a lot of other shooter's who will agree but it's all in the eyes of the beholder and of course how your rifle will like it. I have two 8 pounders of LT30 sitting on a shelf for a few years now just in case I run out of H-4198. Maybe it'll ferment and get more consistent!

35.0 gr. of LT-30 under the 112 & 115 gr. works well. Not as accurate as H-4198 in my rifle but I don't compete.

I was using 36.1 to start with a 118 when I tried it out. Sucked the big one in the cold. Works better when it's hot outside. Not anywhere as consistent as H4198. I'd use N130 before I'd use LT30. I had 176 pounds of it and have 13lbs left if that tells u anything. Have a few friends down in Georgia that use it exclusively and they do pretty good with it. Guess it all depends on the weather and where u live.

I bought some from Midsouth, as it looks like my supply of H4198 may not make thru the summer. Going to try it when the weather starts to cooperate with some Bib 112's which I know shoot well with the H4198.

VV-N130 is my second choice as well.

Maybe H4198 will make it off the boat soon. I have had good results with Lt. 30. You just have to take your time and work the load up for your barrel. Do t assume it will act like H4198. Don't assume you have to jam the bullet for it to shoot. Use a chronograph. I found the speed nodes to be close to H4198. I posted my load work up. It was warmer when I worked the load up. I will go back to it soon to see how it holds up I. The cold, right after deer season.

35.7 is working for me. I have done minimal development but I will be shooting 200 yd 24 UBR target match Saturday. That will give me an idea of where I am at with it. The 112 XOuts have also done fine.

You bring up a question I have. I read a piece from Randy Robinette stating the powder, refering to the H4198, needs to be slighty compressed for best accuracy. I wonder if the is true with the Lt30. If just dump it in it is compressed. If I pour slow it is not compressed. Any thought on this from those who have been using it?
