30BR using LT30 powder

Are you compressing it?
Jeff. When LT30 first became available in the beginning of 2015 I started out using 36.1 in my 30BR and it wasn't compressed. I have a feeling that the newer lots are faster than the original 12-15-14 lot. I'm wondering if the newer lots vary in volume capacity like some lots of 133 in a PPC case.

What speed are you getting!? How many grains??? Never mind, I read 36.1
Frankie. To answer your question I was using a 23" 18TW Krieger with 118 EPS HBN coated bullets. With 35.8 I was averaging 3044. With 36.1 it was 3080. Like I said it was the first run of that powder. I bought 176 pounds of the stuff and I gave up on it because it never shot as well as N130 or H4198. I sold most of it to a bunch of guys from GA and SC. I would like to chrono the current LT30 to see if there is a big difference because I still have about 13 pounds of the 1st run stuff. Frankie. I'm still trying to recover from getting my ass handed to me at an IBS 2 day state shoot in Johnstown, NY. All 13 of us got beat at 200 yards by Scott Miller from NY with his 22 Miller. It's like a 22 Waldog. Man that thing was hooked up. I was 1st loser with a 250-6X but He shot 11X's with a dose of LT32 and some 52 grain bullets with a speed of 3550. He put up 1 more X at 200 yards than he did at 100. Go figure.

Got my hands on this: 2AD73076-89DB-49EF-BCDA-46662FB672A7.jpeg

So I can now compare the unobtainable H4198 with Lt30 and N130.

I started at the same seating depths and bushings that worked with Lt.30. I dropped the load down from 35-36 to 33.8 to 35.3.

The top row I shot a couple of days ago. It did not look good so I backed out of the lands .005 and also decided to work up higher since I was still lower on speed than what shot best with Lt. 30 and N130. They both shined at around 3075 fps+-. The second row was closer to what I expected. 34.3, 34.9 and 35.3 were all .0 three shot groups. I like 34.9.

I will increase the powder charge a bit more and hope that I can find a larger tune window.

Sorry if I missed it but which bullet are you shooting ?

You bring up a question I have. I read a piece from Randy Robinette stating the powder, refering to the H4198, needs to be slighty compressed for best accuracy. I wonder if the is true with the Lt30. If just dump it in it is compressed. If I pour slow it is not compressed. Any thought on this from those who have been using it?
Try it and see ? ;}

I found LT 30 was almost 1 for 1 replacement for H4198 and consistent. Shot great and even bounced between 4198 and Lt30 with no zero change at competition. I shoot 118-7 BIBS and Cheek bullets
