I've kind wondered the same, but reading their info on it I'm mot sure anyone would be able to tell the difference between the two. Hell it's all a crap shoot if ya get a good one or not anyway. Saying that, barrels are cheap compared to buying 8k$ worth of ammo a year. I've only had experience with match select barrels so I wouldn't be able to say if accuracy is better or not. Kinda interesting anywayShilen barrel options for grade
Select match vs match
What is the big difference other than what I've read between the select match and the match barrels and stainless steel has any of you guys had any experience?
This is very interesting but does it make a difference for rimfire shooting Benchrest or NRL/prsRead this and bear in mind a hair measures .003"-.005", so .0003"-.0005" is very very little.
Well, maybe you can enlighten us.This is very interesting but does it make a difference for rimfire shooting Benchrest or NRL/prs
Well tell us John what that difference is. Have you shot any of the match barrels vs select match side by side ?. My guess is you're more likely to get a good one in select match grade than the just match. I've had a bad select match grade barrel too so maybe not.EVERYTHING MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Good for you , but I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had a bad shilen select match or other wise. This barrel never shot groups very well and never scored well so I would call it a bad barrel. You have no idea how many barrels some guys go through to get that one killer. They aren't all killer barrelsI guess "bad" is relative. I've never had a "bad" Shilen barrel and I have had Match, Select Match and Ratchet in various profiles. All were superlative.
Well Sir you are correct in that I have no idea how many barrels "some guys" go through to get that "killer" barrel. I also have no idea if the barrel you are referring to was yours or someone elses that you heard about or how well it needs to do to score "well." If your talking about the barrel on the world championship rimfire rifle that shot better than every other barrel on every other gun used by every other shooter or "The Highlander Barrel" .... there can be only one. Are all the rest are "Bad Barrels?"Good for you , but I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had a bad shilen select match or other wise. I'm pretty sure if you would have reading it properly you would have seen where I stated my barrel. So it was on my gun I shoot 22 rf br ara. I tested over 40 lots of ammo with about the same results from all of them, wich shouldn't be the case. It wouldn't never group under about 3/8 @50 yds and in ara or ir5050 that's not good enough. Got another shilen match select had it installed and it is a absolute hammer and I've shot my best scores ever with this barrel. So I do know they make good ones and some not so good ones it's part of the business.Well Sir you are correct in that I have no idea how many barrels "some guys" go through to get that "killer" barrel. Shilen has damn sure made, and continues to make, their share - and more - of championship barrels.
Of course this is only my testimony based on my personal experiences.
I don't myself I will be getting a match barrel and seeing myself versus the select match but rimfires are completely different animal on all levelsWell, maybe you can enlighten us.
