Rim Sizing

.200 datum line is a good search read.

I got a ring die to use after sizing in normal bump die that corrects the size where need be.200 line.
The rest of the case was ok any way.

Some chambers are more forgiving than others. My pistol s&w is tighter than sig.
Sig will eat anything.

My 9mm and 38 cal go in a case checker it's always a rim thickness that they didn't fit down. Not the rim but the 200 line bulge.

It sure seems like I see sooo many AR-10’s that are over gassed.
Ran across a gent with. 22-250. For some reason he thought changing bullets would fix his rig.
Soot all the way to the base, blown primers and just destroying brass.
I will admit I know darn little of the platform. His loads were not unreasonable and it was doing it with factory ammo as well.

To the OP. Using various brass, from various rifles often ends with various problems. As mentioned on dies, SB and full length size for reliability.

OK, I got the Small Base 308 Win resizing die and now the only way I can get the case anywhere near the base is to go in small increments screwing the die down a 1/4 of a turn at a time and even then the force needed to push the case in and extract the case is tremendous. I've lubed the die and case before resizing but I can't believe it should take such force to resize and extract the case. I thought it was hard to run the cases through the full size die but the small base is almost impossible. Please help. What am I doing wrong?

I want to add that I purchased the small base resizing die and did not get the AR small base die set. I assume the small base I purchased was the same die that comes in the 2 die set.

So you followed the die setup instructions, properly cleaned/lubed the die and brass and the die isn't sizing the brass? How long is the brass after primer is removed?

Problem solved. I moved over to a different press and instead of using Hornady One Shot case lube I used RCBS Case Lube 2 and haven't had any problems. Thanks again for all the assistance from everyone!

Try doing 1000 “machine gun” brass cases.

I have two AR-15s and an Aero Precision M-5 (AR-10) in 6.5 CM. None need a small base die because all were properly chambered. Shooting a mixed bag of range brass was most likely the root cause of the problem. The only time I needed a small base die was to size down some new 6 BR Lapua for a tight chambered 700 build. After the first size and went back to the standard die. Over gassed is ripping a chunk out of the rim. The wrong reload will do that. If your rifle will fire factory ammo of several makes and bullet weights without a problem, it is the reload causing the problem.

Once you have everything in order , I would suggest setting your F/L Die for a .003 - .004 Bump , if you are not single feeding rounds by hand . Semi-autos feed smoother and Bolt lock-up is more positive if the Bolt is not having to force a random tighter ( longer ) case into the chamber . Shoulder Bump can and does vary , so you may want to err on the slightly shorter side until you get to the numbers that work for you .

One point to mention here: If, after sizing, your brass fits your chamber and causes no problems, yet does not fit in your case gauge, you need to put some serious thought as to the value of that case gauge. Seems that you are encountering problems that don't exist because of it.

The only case gauges I own are Wilsons. Perhaps I'm like the wizened curmudgeon who'll only drive Cadillacs.
