.22lr Terry Leonard project for Butch Lambert

Chuckle chuckle, how about magenta flames?
Hot pink with some bling!
I agree it’s not the greatest piece of wood….. but I also say no to flames!!! I just hate them… Lol
Send it this way, I'll rub a few coats of dye n prime it for ya, just because I like ya bud.
Then send it off for some artwork.
I'm thinking some VW murals would be cool knowing Butch was a VW mechanic and the artist specializes in racing.
But what the F do I know.

OK Hannity! I really like your work but am committed to Kenny on this one. I'm only 79yrs old so I'm sure that I will have more down the road.

Thanks Butch!
I definently want to see what Kenny comes up with.

I'm really late to the game here but how did this turn out?
I've never seen a vice that expensive used for wood work.

Nice job but painting a Terry Leonard stock that has decent wood is sacrilege! And that stock looks to have some very decent wood.
Muley, I do have a couple more Leonard un inletted blanks that I also bought from Terry's wife after he left us. Maybe one of those with our resident painter here.
I've posted this story before. My Grandson played football at WVU and Jon Hammond was the rifle coach for WVU. They have the all time NCAA winning record for rifle Championships. When we went to Morgantown on gameday I always visited with Jon. 2 or 3 years ago I asked him if he knew of a reasonable barreled action for a club RF BR rifle. Jon said his assistant coach had a Walther KK300. I thought that $600 was a great price and I bought it. I put a cheap maple wood stock on it and a homemade tuner on it. I won a couple club matches with it and then let a friend have it. I called Jon back and bought his 1913 Anschutz that he shot in the 2008 Olympic games Jon shot for the UK. He traveled to Anschutz and they assembled a barreled action and installed their best trigger assembly. After the Olympics he put it away. When I received it I sent it to Cigar Cop and he did one of his fantastic inlet and bedding jobs to it. I sent the trigger assembly to Tosenges "SP" to work his magic. I installed a Harrell's tuner to it. It has an old Leupold 36X scope on it. The stock was taken to the Sachse Rod Shop that a friend owns. Frank wanted Kenny Youngblood to paint it. The stock is a tribute to Jon Hammond, my buddy. Another great guy, Joe Besche, found ammo that it liked. Several lots of Eley Tenex didn't work, but Lapua Midas was great.

Cool story, a lot of behind the scene stuff going on there, a great tribute rifle. I was just fooling around since I have always had a soft spot for Terry Leonard stocks, ever since the first time I saw one. I grew up in the in Northern California close to the coast and spend a lot of time there and growing up. Here in Ca. Redwood is is used like cedar is used in the rest of the country. Everything back in the day here was made of Redwood, all our fences and decks, everything. Again great story and a fitting build.
