I found this die RCBS 38/9mm. Is this just an expander ? It's like new. I was a total noob back then. I suppose i bought it then didn't need it.

I have a 38 set up on a turret top. It says 38 special, 357. Decapping pin and expander.20220114_195123.jpg

So i don't even need the rcbs 38/9mm.
Btw those # confuse me 38/9mm

I guess push it a little for 9 mm & push it more for 38 & 357
I don't know why i have it unless it was one of those buys before i knew what to buy ...

Could be a expander die or might be just a belling die for flaring the case mouth of straight wall brass to accept bullet seating, without shearing the bullet base.

Except other old guys.

who think your asking to much for a piece of junk that is going to sit in their drawers, I know I have a bunch of dies for sale, Just went to my local GS this morning and found some more I might could use this stuff, and sadly bought it, This is a whole lot better (cheaper) than chasing women's

As a lifelong pistol shooter and competitor, let me add the drawer - or in my case, ammo can - full of used holsters? Some that just didn’t make the grade, some that you no longer need, and some that just appeared. Some are nice, some are junk, but they all fit somewhere into my memory - somewhere.

RCBS says ....

It is typically used to expand cases after sizing in the 38 special or 9mm luger die set before seating the bullet. It could have been sold separately at that time.

So, as i suspected i bought this back when i started 10+ yrs ago, not knowing the flow through die i would also buy would bell the case itself.
A noob move on my part... Shows the process of learning.

It'll stay new & stay in a drawer until someone goes through all my chit and desposes of it.

Huh? How?

When sizing pistol brass, the first and last thing the brass touches is the sizing ring. How would the case get flared?
