I need a longer decapping pin ?

I have an older 38 spec die I want to use for 357. So add the .135 washer all is well but now the decapping pin is too short. I need one .875 or longer , the pin is .062 diam. Help and suggestions please as to obtaining a longer pin. Thanks, bruce

This is true , historicly when doing this they always seem to slip back to the bottomed out position. Tried this several times with RCBS dies with the same result. I may have to get a dowel pin somewhere in that small size.

I may be reading this wrong, but there should be a nut at the top of the die to lock down the depth of the decapping pin itself. Find the correct depth that will push out the primer without having the rod that holds the pin from hitting the inside of the primer pocket. It then won't move up or down. Am I missing something?

Can you just tighten the pin holder with more force?

Zero, the decapper is part of the case mouth expander, going deeper would over expand the mouth. The set has a carbide sizer but no regular sizer which is where it probably should go.
Webster, 2 vise grips locked down and it holds for awhile ,however it usally winds up stuck in the shell holder when the pin bottoms out again.
The universal decapper is probably the best option

Try putting some LockTight on the pin. The non permanent type.

I used to make my own pins at work with whats called drill rod. Comes in 3 foot lengths. Several diameters available. Same stuff the die sellers use. I cut it to length with and abrasive cut off wheel.

Best decapper available.
One fits all rifle/pistol, and indestructible!
Wayne is great to deal with.

I made one from a drill bit. 2 drill bits for a buck 298 at the local Ace hardware. I cut it to length and deburred it with my Dremel. Thanks to all for the input.I have not tried it yet as my TRR8 pistol with less than 500 rounds is at the S&W performance center , light primer strikes.I think the Glock will sit on the night stand. Bruce

For 38/357? Never seen that. Pistol dies normally have a size/decap die (the decap stem doesn't touch the brass except at the flash hole), an expander/flare die, and a seating die. Maybe a separate crimp die.

Only difference between a carbide and non-carbide sizing die is the need to lube cases in a non-carbide sizer.

I assume you're talking about the decapping stem? What happens when it sticks? Does it pull the pin free from the stem? Or does the decapping rod pull through the die?

I use one on pistol and AR rifle brass, as that stuff all gets wet tumbled, and removing the primers first allows the pockets to get cleaned out. If I wasn't wet tumbling, I'd just decap at the sizing station on the progressive press.
