Q for Forum Members -- Increase Bulletin Readership

1. What do you enjoy most in the Daily Bulletin?
First hand information from manufacturers, tech articles from those with extensive experience & success, product evaluations & new product announcements, as well as deal of the day notifications. Sometimes I enjoy the one-sided reading, not back & forth dialog as in the forum. Best of both.

2. What topics/content would increase your interest in the Bulletin?
Rifle builds, both of competitors and also hobby/varmint shooters; a blend of high tech, as well as modest products and equipment.

3. Would you like to see Bulletin Articles displayed inside the Forum somehow?
Yes, perhaps a link, or included when selecting the "new posts" tab, and once read it does not re-appear, much like forum postings.

4. If you don't visit the Bulletin, is there a reason? Or have you just never clicked the link?
I forget about it and don't jump over to the other side until it dawns on me which is not often.

Thank you very much!

I look at the Bulletin daily, and buy from there often.
1. Varity of things covered.
2. More F Class and UBR please.
3. It's OK where it is. I know how to find it.
4. I don't know how you keep this so fresh. That has to be tough.
If I don't need to know how to break in a barrel, or clean one, I move on.
With the number of new people coming to the sight, I'm sure someone needs/wants it.

We have a number of people in this sport with great knowledge. I have been lucky enough to know several.
My fear is that this great source of wisdom will be lost when they pass. If there were a way to garner this wisdom and preserve it that would be of great value.

Thank you for what you are doing!

Boss, you are running a good thing here, you deserve a lot of praise. The only thing I would like to see is a "delete" on the classifieds. I don't have time or patience to look past page 20 or what ever. May be that over priced, rusty 'Ted Williams' 22 will sell after it hits page 20 or so. Instead of our member friends marking the ads 'sold' they should just be deleted, is automatic delete a possibility. Of course the call is yours, just a suggestion. Stay safe, keep up the good work, George.
Keeping old ads is a way to search for past sale prices and values. If something is next to that ted williams 22 on page 20 it has been forgotten about anyway

To me, the "Forums" and the "Main Site" are really like two different web sites.

The strength of the Forums is its interactiveness and the impressive body of experience that its readership represents. It's like being in a bar or a cafe with a bunch of your shooting buddies. And, thankfully, it's largely free of the snark and meanness that bedevils most Internet forums.

The strength of the Main Site is the breadth of technical articles that are there. Those articles can go much deeper into a topic than your typical forum post.

The challenge is getting people in the Forums - where I'm guessing most people spend most their time - to regularly visit the Main Site. Not that it's difficult to navigate... but the user interface on the Main Site strikes me as visually busy, and a little bit clumsy. There are a lot of things vying for attention.

A few things that might help integrate the two sites...

- Having a Search function that spanned both

- Even better... having a customizable Search function that a user could set up one time (but could add to or modify at any time) and then can click on whenever they want. Most of us have particular disciplines, activities, cartridges, rifles, etc. that we're interested in. We then visit the Forums (or the Main Site) and manually scan thread topics looking for those things. Imagine how cool it would be if you could build a custom search table that might include many of your favorite subjects, say...
30 BR
6mm PPC
Benchrest
IBS Results
243 Win
Annealing
Chamber Pressure
etc., etc.

and that when you clicked on any of those things the Search function would return any hits from both the Main Site as well as the Forums. That would be a pretty powerful feature. If having customizable searches associated with each profile is a bridge too far... having a set of site-wide canned searches that did the same thing - and was organized into an easily accessible table - would be nearly as good.

- Being able to quickly and easily link to an article on the Main Site from within a Forum post. You can do that today, but it has to be done manually, and so very few bother. If each article had a "Click to Copy" button it might inspire more people to drop relevant links within their forum posts, and so help cross pollinate the two sites.

And, yeah, more Cartridge Guides.

Excellent thought, I can go along with that. So there must be a way to search out previous ads for a specific item. As you can tell I'm not a computer whiz-bang button pusher.

I’m not sure about ads, but I just looked myself to see, and in the upper right there is a site search field. So for instance I typed “20 Practical” and it came up with a bunch of pages. Pretty handy if any of us want resource information for a project or a wonderment.

I have read cartridge articles in that section, but only after searching the site for something. I haven't been consciously aware of the link you reference, but it's possible I clicked it once long ago. Let's just say it doesn't attract my attention for some reason.

Forum Boss: On top of this Forum there is a button labeled "Bulletin"
Here is the direct link you can bookmark: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com

On a cellphone you need to click the three lines upper left to display the full menu.

I am a shade tree guy about doing things myself when it comes to making or building my own tools or fabricating pretty much anything... [Building a better mouse trap]
How about video's on DIY projects?
Inventions of tools?
Lot's of good stuff on YT , But would like to see ideas coming from like minded people on this {My favorite site] site.

Most members of the Forum have enjoyed our major resource articles, such as the Cartridge Guides.

And we know many members regularly read the Daily Bulletin. But we want to increase readership.

I have some questions for Forum members, and would be interested in your responses to one or more of these questions.

1. What do you enjoy most in the Daily Bulletin?

2. What topics/content would increase your interest in the Bulletin?

3. Would you like to see Bulletin Articles displayed inside the Forum somehow?

4. If you don't visit the Bulletin, is there a reason? Or have you just never clicked the link?

The reason for these questions, is that the editorial side of AccurateShooter.com is very important, and we want to increase readership among our Forum members. That can help us strengthen the site and provide more benefits to our members -- including product discounts and technical articles.
I’d like to see some sort of comprehensive location for F class competitions across the country.

The Bulletin is always my first stop. Really look forward to the Sunday Gunday articles. Personally I read through all of them, never know when I might learn something new related to shooting. I wouldn't mind seeing more articles on the various forms of firearm competitions. All in all, ya'll are doing a great job.

I would like to see the daily bulletin in a banner at the top of the forum.

Since I left Facebook I have no idea where to find it.

Love the daily bulletins. :)

1. New technology articles, and some skills articles like wind reading or reloading tips. I like the weekly Best Buy’s feature a lot too, it has led me to make several purchases.

2. New cartridge guides and updates on some of the very old ones (some are ~ 20 years old).

3. No, I look at it almost every day anyway.

4. I visit the bulletin several times a week.

I check in there about once a week. I enjoy the info on new products, featured guns, etc. I check out the deals too, and it has cost me quite a few bucks through the years for doing so!

I do enjoy the cartridge guide section but it could use a refresh as others mentioned.

Perhaps a list of sponsors with a synapsis on what they offer. It would be cool if they offered some sort of coupon to paying members here and would probably increase membership too.

All helpful suggestions. Thank you guys.

We will consider linking stories in the main Forum area. And we are thinking about a preview window somewhere.

One word about the Cartridge Guides. Huge, huge amount of work. Probably 200 man-hours per cartridge to do this right for a new Guide, 80-100 man-hours for a thorough update. Yes we would like to expand to additional cartridge types and make updates, but honestly that could be a full-time position, just for that task.

What if you put out an EOI to forum members to lend some weight to this task - you could cut and edit the best bits including load data. For the data to add more weight, you could ask members to list competition achievements or something similar to verify they know what they're talking about perhaps? That might help cut down on some of the work.

He's been asking people to submit stories for years

Forum Boss: Yes indeed.
