Bring enough gun ,375 ?

Sounds like she has her head on straight. Nothing uglier than a 4x4 that is jacked up with wheels sticking out 18" outside the wheel wells. They belong to insecure people for the most part.

Oh did I mention she’s my Xwife . Not sure about the wheels out 18” but a good and good looking 4/4 is a must if you live out side the city and like to explore or go anywhere in the winter . The point is this big guns ,small guns ,hunters ,target shooters bow hunters all have some common interest !! and that’s the reason we all joined this forum was to pursue our individual interests so that said let’s talk about what we like and are interested in ??

I have a Duramax 4dr 4x4, I live in the country, and get by with practical size and good looking tires and wheels. Of course mine is practical and I've never been stuck in snow or mud.
I've lived in Alaska 2 different times for about 10 years and the trucks stuck and in the ditch had the big ugly tires and wheels.
I guess I did kinda slipped into the dark side thou, I have a 458 Lott, 416 Rigby, 9.3x63, and building a 338 Rum and a 375 H&H.

Thanks I’ll post a pic of the gun as soon as I figure out how to ( Teck in pared ) need my 12 year old grandson to help me on this . I can’t wait to start working up some loads if any one has worked with 375 Enabler or cheytac this cartridge will be aprox 8 grs more powder than Enabler and 7/9 grains less than 375 cheytac . I would really appreciate any load data / your favorite bullet and powder on either cartridge . May your new treat be a great one. Mike

How far along are you on your 338 rum my son shoots 300 rum an has been talking about his ultimate elk gun 338 Rum would be a great build are going to hunt with it if so what are you after? keep me posted on progress Mike

Wonder what the reasoning was when they made that rule. Do you think it was to keep the 50 BMG guys from using them? I will check with Utah to see if we have a limit.

Story is there were incidents of people blasting at elk with BMGs. Rather than specifically restrict any cartridge, since not everyone who shoots a 50(or any other large cartridge) is an asshole, I guess they decided a weight limit would make it less pleasant and deter their use. The weight is ready to hunt including ammo and attachments.

James Anderson did my 416 Rigby. Photos are on this forum and is on the back cover of the American Custom Gunmaker Guild magazine. It is built on a Mod 17 Enfield.
I've got the parts for my 300-338RUM switch barrel and I need to chamber both barrel and have Mark Brown at Brown Precision build the Kevlar stock. My 375 H&H is built on a CZ550 receiver. I will get Mark Brown to do the stock for it. My 458 Lott metalwork was done by Dennis Olson and walnut stock by Member here, Jim Kobe. The barreled action was built for a PH in Mozambique. A client got rattled and shot him in the shoulder with a Lott. I bought it and transferred the funds to Africa.

I am not a long range hunter because , for me, my comfortable distance is 300yards for a clean kill. We have a 1 mile range close and I will shoot the RUM there just for grins. I have a 2.5X-25X March scope for it.

The weight is a non issue 3 or 4 pounds from your average factory rifle to this is at least in my opinion not a big deal. The cartridge is big ,the caliber bullet is big . But that’s why they make Volkswagen bugs and big ass 4 /4s some thing for everyone. And I made this because it’s fun to design and build guns and I love the big ones . I’ll target shoot it more that hunt probably and it will be a great 1000 yarder, just for fun and having and shooting guns from 6 years old to my 70 years now has always been nothing but fun and a great outing with family and friends. And to be able to design and develop a new cartridge is the ultimate for me. Have a good time out there thanks for the comments Mike

I’m pretty sure there is no max rifle weight for hunting in Michigan. I could be wrong and if so I’ll learn something new.

I just got a semi-brilliant idea, could I borrow one of those big rifles of yours? I only need it for 1 area near a river in Montana. It's one of our gopher shooting areas, but the brush along the river is home to grizzly bears. If I could use one of those big guns for gophers, I'd be ready if a bear shows up. We shoot off rotating benches from rear of our pick-ups. Here is the brilliant part, I'll park the truck in 'neutral' and not set the parking brake, the truck should absorb the recoil and I'll have 'enough gun' for both gophers and bears. Sometimes I'm also amazed by my brilliance!! Do you think a Dodge 2500 diesel has enough weight?

Yep! Watch where the ports on your brake are pointed. They will take paint off and knock the filaments off your tail light bulbs.

Im not stuck on that barrel ive just had it stuck back for years. Id love to have barrel bands, express sights and rust bluing i just dont have much of a source for that

Dusty, several sources for banded front and rear sights. Order close to fit and bore to an exact fit. Definitely use Alaska Arms for scope rings, especially for a CZ.

I’m developing a cartridge that’s right in between 375 enabler and the cheytac as far as powder capacity.( 145-155 gr )Uses the 640 bolt face same as cheytac, to allow easy re chamber Gun was just finished and came in at just over 12 pounds with scope it will be under 14 pounds . I think that’s the hunting weight maximum in Idaho maybe and some other states as well ? Not sure on that . I used a stiller - tax 408 action 1.45 diemater single shot with a proof reserch 30” 1-8 twist 6 lbs . my stock is carbon fiber , and klevlar built by blagg rifle LLC penelton oregon and just little over 2 lbs blagg rifle ( Daren ) did all the chambering muzzle break and barrel fitting I had the action and stainless steel portion of the barrel black crerakote and did an beautiful job fit and finish perfect . Now Hoping for some half way decent weather to get out and work up some loads. The build was intended to be a hunting gun ! The target rifle will be in the 30 pound range .this cartridge has all the new case design elements that we are seeing PRC- PPC 22/6MM ,WSM , 22-BR norma BR ,dasher , BR 6MM and rem short action 300 they are all supberly accurate and all have a compact powder column ( short fat ) .a 30 degree or close shoulder , slight body taper and a long neck to allow for heavy/long for caliber bullets to be seated with out intrusion into the powder column. Then add one of the best long range caliber-375 bullets with enough velocity to be not only super competitive but with out being over boar . And with 350 gr bullet exiting the muzzle at 3250 +/- should be enough gun for any creature that stocks the earth . Any one shooting cheytac with a pet load they would like to share ? I have quite a few powders to experiment with and would love to hear what bullet recommendations you have for hunting lm thinking 325-min 400 max gr weight range . What are you getting velocity wise I’ll be running 135 gr to 145 ish powder maybe 150 depending on powder well here’s to hoping we have a good year ahead of us take care Mike
