Prairie Dog Towns?

Talked to my best friend in Lamar, Co this week regarding PDs. I would go out there 3 to 4 times a year for PD shooting. Drought and plague have depleted many of the towns I used to shoot over. Holly was always my favorite place to go.
He said populations are climbing but nothing compared to 10 years ago. Another two years of normal weather will help replenish the plague/drought kill off.
Last time I went I killed 835 in one day. My goal was 1000 PDs in one day. I could have accomplished that goal but cloud/fog did not lift until 10:00 am.. Great day of shooting regardless.

Bob
Are you sure!! Remember there are other people that shoot them !

The towns i know are low head count. I skipped it this year hoping numbers can climb a bit. I know im not the only one shooting there. I know the problems they cause, but if eradicated then no fun for me or food for other animal's.

We shot western Kansas in June and Wyoming in September. Drove from North Florida both times. The population isn't like it used to be from my understanding but none the less we still had a great time.

I will call Springfield maybe in May or so and see. We had plenty of good holes on public ground that was excellent hunting, but those died off. The private ground around there was even better, but the rancher that gave us permission has since passed on and his on won't grant permission. The last I looked on Google those holes were everywhere still.

By the numbers: last several trips my numbers had gone down, too. I believe my last trip I killed about 900-950 over three days. We keep track with how we place the empties in the box, primer up is a hit, primer down is a miss.

After watching different places come and go in terms of population, I also watched for updates on Google Earth and noticed that some spots that were long dead still look the same after several years of being barren in terms of prairie dogs. But that is just my take. Would like to hear other opinions on that.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

And the same to you!
