SEB neo vs the T-Rex rest

Hey all, I'm currently running a SEB NEO and the old man is running a SEB max. He is wanting to go to a NEO but is also interested in the Rodzilla T-Rex. My dad has been talking to Rod and Rod suggested we open a conversation here to see what people who have used both have to say.

His main concern really is how smooth the joystick operation is, is there more or less tolerance in the joystick that when you make micro movements the joystick actually moves a bit before moving the cradle

But Pros and cons and of a comparison of who has ran both is what we are really looking for.

I have had 2 Farly's, 2 Neos 2 Maxs and just purchased the T Rex that was listed here the other day.
A friend has a Trex that I checked out the other day and it is far superior to all the rest.
I currently have a Farly and a MAX both having been reworked by Allen Wolford and the Max will be sold and replaced by the Trex.
I'm not knocking the Sebs because they are outstanding especially after having been slicked up by Allen but the Trex has the edge.

Do you shoot class or br

I've been shooting the T Rex for a couple of months and I love it. I can't say that I have a lot of experience with a SEB, although I have briefly tried one that a buddy of mine has. The SEB is certainly a quality rest.
What I can tell you about the T Rex is that it is extremely smooth and holds position really well even when I let go of the joystick and shoot. I have not experienced any play in the system when making small adjustments with the joystick. Of course you have to set up the counterbalance system but that is very easy to do, all you need is an allen wrench which you insert from the bottom. Nothing to take apart. I did it once and didn't have to readjust it for any of my other F Open guns.
The other great feature is that the top swivels so gun/bag/target alignment is simple when you go to set up. There is absolutely no binding in the bags. I don't know if you are shooting benchrest or F Class. I have both the five axis top and the sandbag top for my T Rex. For F Class I prefer the five axis. Its very easy to get right back on target even with a heavy recoiling/ torquing gun. You don't have to worry about the sandbag compressing on one side from the torque even after long strings of fire. I shoot a McMillian Kestros Z-rail stock and the sandbag top works, but the five axis just works better for me. The joystick handle and height adjustment rod make it real easy to work with even with a really long stock like the Z-rail. I can do everything without getting out of the prone position.
I haven't used it for short range benchrest yet as I have been shooting mostly F class. I do have a Sinclair competition rest for short range so I'll have to see how it stacks up against that. The Sinclair although it is a good short range rest is simply useless for F Class with a long stock, since it's impossible to reach the controls.

Im sure the rod is very nice and he is a nice guy, but seb rests are no slouch and the customer service is as good as any. I have every model hes ever made and while some are better than others they all are top shelf rests. I wouldnt hesitate to buy either one if i needed one

I'm interested in this also, been following up on the TRex for a while. On my second seb shooting long and short range bench rest and really like them but have never felt confident in turning loose of the joy stick before the shot, would really like to try the TRex .. John

Awesome this is just the type of conversation we wanted to open up, we both shoot class and are gonna shoot class. I really love my neo and I do notice slight joystick play, and I mean slight, not disappointed or anything. The old man is in line for another NEO and has been talking with Rod thinking of grabbing a Rex cause the wait list isnt as long as the NEO. His main concern is the joyplay.

happy to keep hearing comments.

I was curious myself so I watched the videos:

F-class John also did a nice review on it that is easily found.

Seems to me he has refined some things and the price includes the custom case.

Whether or not this is actually necessary for the average shooter is another thing. TBD by the individual.
Nice, we have been watching all the vids and doing as much research as possible, glad the hear from the community.

I have a T-rex and a mini with all the Blake stuff on there that I’m probably getting ready to sell. I’ve shot off the farleys and neos. I think the T-Rex has more features and ease of adjustment like @One Eye Pete mentioned, such as adjusting coarse vertical while laying in the shooting position. I shoot F though, so I’ve got no clue on the benchrest part.

Saying that, if I were to shoot of the bench as a primary focus, that 21st century hybrid is a really really nice piece of equipment.

For benchrest the five axis top for the T Rex is not legal therefore you have to go with the sandbag top. It uses an Edgewood Farley rest front bag. I don't think there are as many advantages for benchrest as there are for F Class but the T Rex is still an extremely smooth stable precise joystick rest. The sandbag top also has the swivel feature so it is still easy to align without binding in the front bag if you tighten the front ears up.
I did consider a 21st century hybrid but I couldn't get as much info on them and didn't know anyone who had one. It looks like a great rest and all of their other products are first class.
It's hard to say that one rest is far superior to the others, it's mostly a matter of personal preference.

The T-Rex is the best coaxial rest I've used by far, I've owned a Seb Mini with all the Bryan Blake mod-cons as well as a Dolphin Gun Company coaxial which was pretty neat. However, if you already own a Seb Max or Neo, just buy the Rodzilla top for your rest - one of the big features with the T-Rex is the ability to just plonk the rest down, doesn't matter if it's not squared up with the target - the head will do this for you. I must say though, the ease of coarse elevation adjustment on the T-Rex without having to move from behind your rifle is so convenient.

The friend of mine that has one @Billy Bob mentioned he was able to let go of the joystick while shooting and did feel his scores improved , he shoots short range score, 600 and 1000 yard.
Maybe he can add some additional information on his experience with it.

If we want to list all the top of the line choices you have dont forget the lenzi rest. It is truly a work of art and moves zero when letting go
I got the Lenzi a few months ago and only got to shoot one match but this is true, let go and it doesn't move, so smoooooth! Love the look and REALLY like the way I can change the angle of the base especially with a drop port!

Yep it is, been wanting to try one of them also... John

Every front rest comes with trade offs. I've shot off most of them and while every top end rest (Rodzilla, Seb, Lenzi, 21st Century) does a great job, they each accomplish it in their own way and you have to find what fits your needs. For me the Rodzilla continues to be my go-to rest because I love the ability to adjust while in position and it's smooth as glass, plus Rod keeps adding to it allowing you to customize it your way
(different tops, feet, etc) without having to go to aftermarket parts. As with any larger front rest your trade off is size when traveling but the T-Rex in between something like a Mini-X (compact) and the 21st Century (very large footprint) so I can accept that.

If I'm ever at a match or range and someone wants to try it, they're always welcome.
