New Feller Here From VA

Howdy, I’ve been looking at the forum for a while but just decided to make an account. Reason I joined was the name “Accurate Shooter”- and I like accurate shootin!

I’m into mostly older guns like Mausers, Enfields and Carcanos, I wish to have a massive military collection some day. I also do reloading, I just started, but I’ve been gathering stuff for over a year and in the mean time studying the subject.

I’m pretty young as for someone who reloads these days, I’m only 18, I’m in the VA National Guard. I like working with tools, I took 3 years of Machine Shop and 1 year of woodworking in High School, going to further my education in the Mechatronics Field.

My flagship piece has to be my Remington Model 81 in 300 Savage.

I’m eager to meet new folks on here and ask about reloading and shooting old guns, if y’all got any questions for me I’d be happy to answer.

Welcome to the forum Derek I’m glad you found it

Hey from Texas! You did good! You joined the best shooting forum on the net! We’re all gentlemen here, except for an old sailor goes by Capt. Dan. Watch out for him! Otherwise, we’ll help as best as we can!
PS: I love old Mausers, especially the Swedes! If you’re lucky, Ggmac will answer your questions. He’s an expert on all things Mauser!

I got 2 Spanish Mausers I don’t know much about, I know that they are from the mid 20s based on serial number, I’ll have to make a post in the future.

Welcome aboard. I am in Lynchburg and our club, IZAAK WALTON LEAGUE of LYNCHBURG short version IWLL holds a couple 200 yard vintage military matches a year. The 2022 schedule is not yet set. Non members are welcome to shoot in the matches. We have a web site, http:www.iwla.org/lynchburg . If you look at the site you will find a copy of the 2021 schedule and get an idea of what matches we hold. This past week end we had a 30 yard match and an 1873 Springfield, 1903A3 Springfield and an M-1 were fired in the Service/Sporter/ Heritage class.

I believe there is an Izaak Walton League down the road from me in Christiansburg. Dad and I have thought about joining!

I started shooting at age 5, got my first press and gear at 14. Been at it now 52 years. Shot rimfire sillouettte, hunted groundhogs, small game and deer, eventually hunted deer with a handgun, (killed 19) became a firearms instructor, shot skeet, hunted grouse, turkey, woodcock, pigeon, dove, starlings, rats, squirrel and recently, prarie dogs. Carried a gun every day on my job for 20 years. Also worked PT for a great reloading company. My absolute passion and favorite is groundhogs. I only own two military rifles, and one is a trapdoor. For the record the other is NOT an AR.

D, you are now part of the best forum on the net for helpful, passionate and (usually) sensible people. I have made friends here from Oregon, Carolinas, Texas, Maryland, Ohio, NY, Colorado, and other states too. I've traded dies, bullets, brass, information, scopes. I've bought a crap ton of stuff, and sold a little too.
Many of us are older, but it sure is nice to have a young person in our midst.
My only advice is to read old threads, read the articles on the home page, no matter if they seem to relate to your interest or not... and nail, screw, tape and weld your wallet shut.

Welcome to the fold
