Anyone loading .358 Win or .35 Whelen?

What throat length do you have and what OAL can cartridge be?
Well it was a hodgepodge. Used a 300 WSM reamer for the body and a 358 Win reamer for the neck and throat. Chamber neck has 3 thou clearance with Nosler 325 WSM and Norma 300 WSM brass. Throat worked well for 180 TSX and 200 AB’s, had to seat to 2.975” with 225 AB’s. Throat was pretty short, maybe .030”? Less than a land width was cleaned up before the lands start. Turned out about ideal IMO, but I’ll probably open up the neck to .392-3” vs the .390” it is now.

Are you going to have to seat 225+ bullets deep in the
case?

The 225 AB’s seated to 2.975” have the boattail/bearing surface right at the neck/shoulder junction. If that was your bullet of choice I’d increase the fb by .050”, but it’s perfect for the 180 tsx and 200 AB.

Thanks, that was what I wanted to know. I would put it in a LA and have plenty room for seating long. Throat would be the only question.

Another vote for Ramshot TAC & magnum primers in my Rem 700 custom in .358
I load 220gn Speers at 2.68" getting +/- 2540fps. I'm told that 8208 also gets pretty close to that velocity with similar charge weights. H4895 has a very close burn rate, if it's easier to find

As a follow up to the 358 WSM/35 Sambar, w/ CFE 223 powder (most promising in QL), 180 TSX were in the 3050fps range with great accuracy, and 225 AB’s are running 2840fps at 3 gr under QL suggested max (which was the estimated velocity of 2850ish). At 3/4 MOA or less accuracy at 300 with the 225 AB’s and about the same with the 180tsx. My buddies are waiting for the 200gr TTSX to come back in stock thinking those might be the sweet spot for trajectory and performance on whitetail. So far the 180 TSX has been devastating on two whitetail.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test said 225 NAB load on an Iowa whitetail but it did an excellent job on a quartering away feral tomcat at 173 yards; pretty much bang flop with a complete pass through.

I used a .35 Whelan Ack. for years on timber elk, moose, bear using 280 gr SwiftAframe at 2400fps. Could take any shot and it was a killer. I can understand why Alaskan hunters like it.
Back in the early 60's, I had My 760 Rem re-barreled ( here in Racine WI. ) by "Boots Obermeyer ". We believe it was the worlds first in the .760 slide. Later... Remington commercialized it for a short time. He used 4140 for the barrel with a 14 twist. If memory serves, I enjoyed RL.11 over 3031 and H380. At the time, I was using Rem. 200 gr, hollow points, 180 speer, and even has some 150 gr, Rem. pspcl. These were quite rare, as were the 200 gr. Rem. HP. I only hunted white tail, so cannot say how each would have reacted on anything larger.
