Howa Mini 6PPC

By the way I did find a very old thread here on the forum. Of people necking down the 7.62x39 case to PPC..
Got to give that a try!

The late Glen Zediker used 7.62X39mm brass as a s starting point for 22PPC in an AR-15 XTC rifle. He details the conversion process in his book The Competitive AR15. Frankly, the workload is way OTT if 220 Russian brass is available except maybe for high volume users in a discipline where you're likely to lose cases.

I too have necked down 7.62X39 Lapua Brass down to 6mm. No problem. HOWEVER. The large primer brass i have does not handle Pressure very well. The same loads I run with 220 Russian brass or 6.5 Grendel brass will destroy the primer pockets in just a couple firings. But i had to try it....

Imho these Howa minis are a dandy and way slicker than the other micro action.
I have three myself 222, 22Nosler and a 6.5 G. I wish I had three more.
I put the 222 into a Boyd’s pro varmint. The 22 Nosler is in an Oryx chassis. The 6.5 Grendel I put into a Bell&Carlson stock with new bottom metal. All feed smooth as glass and accur

Any of you gents tinkering with the little Howa, I have a couple of factory stocks for the cost of shipping.
I hope we see some more after market options at some point.

I have a 243 LBC Turbo 40 as well. Cool little PPC based round. Basically a PPC “Dasher”. Shoulder blown forward a long ways and improved to 40 degrees. Though the rifle is built on a heavily customized single shot Rem 722 action with a 1K BR laminated stock.

From PPC brass I neck up to 6.5mm, set false shoulder using FL sizing die, turn necks, fireform twice. Same process as making 6 Dasher cases from 6BR. But one advantage of my 243 LBC T40 is I can also make cases from 6.5 Grendel brass and don’t need to neck up to make a false shoulder. Just set the false shoulder right away in the FL die then turn necks and fireform.

Left to right:
Virgin 6 PPC, Virgin 6.5 Grendel, False shoulder set on 6.5 Grendel brass with neck turned, Fireformed 243 LBC T40, 6mm Dasher.

Has the extractor groove been worked on in these cases?

Has the extractor groove been worked on with all these cases?

I take it the 6Dasher rim has been turned down to work with the PPC bolt? Have heard about folks doing it but have not seen an example.

Good lookin cases!

I've also have a 22 NOSLER in a miniaction with a long throated leade. Have you had the same problem with brass as I have...
Mine wont reach 3100fps with out smearing the brass onto the bolt face. Shooting 77grn bullets.
That rifle build has been a total letdown!.

No. The rifle has a custom built bolt with a ppc face and mini 16 exctractor.

I have not shot any 77’s. Would have to check notes, but I think 75’s are as heavy as I went. Barrel is from Preferred Barrels, 1-8” 3 groove 27”. I have not had any pressure or speed problems. Some compared it to a 22-250, I never intended for it to be that. More of a 222mag+, and not have to push things to get there. Book published data, I have exceeded speeds.
The reamer is SAMMI spec.
I built this around a large purchase of factory 22Nosler ammo.
It loves 69 grain Sierra MK’s, but what rifle of suitable twist doesn’t?
I am now working with 60 grain Vmax and the Sierra 60 grain varmint. Both show good promise.

My thoughts was to have a purpose 22 short case that could out do the 223 with 77 and heavier bullets do to case capacity.
And so that thee 77grn and higher weight bullets wouldn't limit me with case volume, I had it throated deeper by 0.055 from standard SAAMI spec's and that the bullet base would stay away form the case neck donut.
69grn bullets are awesome and speedy ARcomp can really get them out there with very good accuracy.
Leverevolution on the 77 and 80's are what I was looking for..but no dice" no sir it sucks ass!
