219 Donaldson Wasp 70gr Load Data

I had a contender rifle barrel built in 219 Donaldson Wasp with a 9 twist to let me try the heavier bullets. Does anyone have any load data for the 68-70 grain bullets. Hornady goes to 60gr which is the heaviest i've been able to find.

First thing to do is verify which version Wasp you have. Different case capacities. The original version is 1.75” case length. The “long” version is 1.813”. And there were a few other designs. Better safe than sorry.

I have the long 1.813" version. It's a contender barrel and I believe Ackley's info was pretty warm so not going to push it.

You might have some luck looking into .222 Magnum 70 grain loads, if there’s even such a thing. Case capacity would be close enough for a starting point.

I would suggest starting with a, say, 27g of Varget and going on from there. Best guess only - but it won't take your face off!

I just read online where a guy said the 224 Valkyrie is basically a rimless 219DW. Does that sound correct to you? Lots of data for 224 Valkyrie with heavier bullets and different powders out there. I know to start low and work up don't have a clue about the Valkyrie but like the different powder options.

That’s correct, the Valkyrie is very close to the Wasp.

Nitemann, consider looking for Federal 30 American brass, it’s small primer 30-30 brass. Hasn’t been made for several years but I found 200 on this site. I’ve used it in my 14 twist Wasp with 52 bullets, groups were a bit tighter with the small primer.
