Burris signature z series with inserts ?

How many in/lbs do you guys tighten these rings ? How far from the bell and turrets do you keep the rings ?

I go 12-14 inch lbs on the cap screws and keep the rings pretty close to either end. The ring to base torque I run 35 inch lbs. The cap screws are really easy to over tighten and to get set off kilter so I snug them down like you would a cylinder head alternating from front to back between both rings, so back screw back ring left side, front screw front ring right side. I do that after running the screws down till they just make contact and go 180deg at a time until they start to provide any kind of resistance then I drop to 90deg at a time. Until I started being that anal about it I found it very easy to over tighten them or have the cap gaps be uneven. Uneven gaps (visibly uneven, I don't break out feeler gauges) have not treated me well.

ETA: I've had to snug things down on rare occasion and googling it says 20 inch lbs but I'm happier to keep an eye on it than to crush a scope tube.

I use a caliper to measure the gap between the ring halves begin slowly tighten and measure trying to get the gap within .002 to .005 at 3 points. example .035 .036 .034 total gap between halves...18 inch lbs is a good place to torque burris rings shoot a bit then retorque to 19 or go 16 to 18 on the rings bases screws for the ring base 30 to 40 Burris sig rings are 60 to 70 and 25 top half

I keep the inserts on the cylindrical part of the tube. eyeball the gaps, and tighten by feel. On the other hand, I know guys who should never tighten anything by feel, and I use torque wrenches for things like engine building, and tightening into aluminum where I am concerned about stripping. I have a lot of experience taking things apart and putting them together so my hand may be somewhat better calibrated than some who have not skinned their knuckles as much.

I tighten my Signature XTR rings to 18 in.lbs., which are on both my .308 and 6.5 PRC and nothing has moved in the thousands of rounds fired. But, here is info from Burris' website:

Here's a pic that should give you some idea as to where I have placement of the rings on my Vortex scope.
