Question on reaming dies

I have a set of Redding dies, Type s neck bushing die and a Competition seating die. They are for a 6mm Remington and now re-barreled and I'm shooting a 6mm Ackley Improved 40. Guys @ Redding suggested I ream to the 6mm 40, my smith says it requires a special reamer. Any suggestion on a smith that can ream this dies to make them work for my Ackley improved? thank for the help. Rick

You're probably better off buying the die already made . The die blank plus the cost of the reamer plus labor , is much more than just buying a die already made .

Does anybody know of anyone who could ream my Newlon blank full size die and a Newlon blank seating die? I already have the reamers made by JGS

You cannot ream the S Type Bushing Die. It s case hardened.

the competition seater is a different story. The sliding sleeve is not hardened. They cut quite easily. Just run your reamer in and establish the new shoulder. You might have to trim a tad off of the length of the sleeve to get it just right, but no big deal.

I have converted many Competition Seaters to different cases of the same bullet size. In fact, for my 762x39 project, I discovered that no one makes a true competition seater for it. So I got a Redding Competition seater for a 300 Blackout that I will modify the sliding sleeve with my 762x39 match reamer.

as for the Reaming of a Newland full sizing die. How do you harden it?

it has been my experience that full length dies that are not case hardened really do not work that well.

Whoa Jackie, did know if you were answering original O.Ps question or Dean1157.
Agree a sizing die thats not case hardened doesn't work very well but nitride is an option if he wants to go the expense.
