True but, lighter faster bullets slow down quicker than heavy slow bullets. As velocity doubles the force against the frontal area quadruples... Ballistics are quite the intriguing topic..
The X-ring is 4”..
Truly impressive to observe, too.And they will put them all in the 4 inch at 50 too...
The Lange Pistole 08 may have had a sight setting for 800, but I defy anyone to get a hit on even a Jeep at 800 other than by chance. Even from a rest.Take a look at the LP08 - artillery Luger. Design and calibrated to 800 meters. Might also research the orginal specs for 9mm Parabellum ammo.
Totally get that.True but, lighter faster bullets slow down quicker than heavy slow bullets. As velocity doubles the force against the frontal area quadruples... Ballistics are quite the intriguing topic..
I think the short answer is yes. How much you'll gain in a rounder or flat nose pistol bullets will be so minimal, I wouldn't worry as much about that than I would accuracy. Of course, accuracy is the holy grail of shooting anyway. Just don't think you'll notice much difference in pistol bullets to speak of.Just curious, is 9mm 147 gr hp more accurate at longer range that a 124gr hp?
Just so all things are kinda equal. Both loads would be middle of the road speed per reloading manuals
Correct , I don't think anyone took that sight setting seriously , even the guys carrying it... Several articles have been written on that old pistol and not one would take the 800 setting seriously even with modern ammo... It seemed like wishful thinking....The Lange Pistole 08 may have had a sight setting for 800, but I defy anyone to get a hit on even a Jeep at 800 other than by chance. Even from a rest.
As someone who shoots alot of glock , and works at a gun range and has a CHL for a long while and even been part of the test instructing people trying to get their CHL... I can say the shooting part of it is absolutely not skill , those courses need to be alot harder... Tx is 3-7-15 yards on a full size police target and 50 rounds total.... Law enforcement was 50 and then 25 at night plus 12 rounds at 25 in 25 seconds with a revolver and no speed loaders.... Lol , I know I'm dating myself , that's been awhile....Truly impressive to observe, too.
@bayjoe, test for yourself. It's easy enough.
Do know, the harmonics mentioned for rifles also exist for pistol cartridges. Hence, for your test, you'll want to tune your chosen load. You will find nodes in your powder / bullet choice combinations.
I have done the same for some of my pistols and noted that some loads will shoot like a scatter gun, change the powder level a smidge and the groups will tighten up. Offhand shooting, presuming consistent technique by me, and resting in between strings of 8 or 10 rounds (e.g. a mag)
Edit to add:
if you watch this video Paul Harrell did for the Brno 7.5 FK pistol, he does many tests at 100 yards using different sights. I chuckle because I have seen people struggle to pattern that well at 21' using Glocks. If you go to a CC class where shooting skill is a part of the requirement to pass, you'll see even worse.
