Potential 6BR Build - Anything to be aware of?

I have a Savage action that I was going to build into a 6 Dasher but the barrel I purchased didn't work out and after some back and forth, it sat in the corner and I ended up selling the barrel.

So I have an action which was originally a Savage .22-250 and I was thinking of building a budget 6BR as it looks like I can order a barrel from UrbanRifleman in 6BR and I'm starting to see some brass become available. Barrel looks like it is an 8 Twist with the following specs: 6BR 124 FREEBORE (IDEAL 80GR TO 110GR) 272 NECK

My questions are this. Is there anything special I need to know about the 6BR? (Yes, I've read the focus article here on AS) Outside of sourcing some brass, dies and a go/no go gauges, is there anything else I need to be aware of?

I have a Savage varmint stock, NSS nut and lug to use as well.

Just wanted to make sure there's nothing I'm missing. This will be a varmint/fun gun, not a competition rig.

You will really like it.

Or get the 6bra 104 FB. That is just so awesome. I have dies for both.

Make certain it’s for Lapua brass and not the “old” original “Remington” case. The necks are much shorter on the rem. Chamber plus the .200 line diameter is not sufficient for lapua brass. New brass will work with 200 line, once. Based on my experience.

Would you see any of that with today's offerings? I'm guessing anything made or pushed out today would be for the Lapua case 6mm BR Norma. Am I correct to assume that @urbanrifleman ?

Only the smith can tell you which reamer he used. I would request a print.
I learned the hard way.
You are correct, “most” modern stuff is setup for the Lapua. I learned enough from previous experience I always ask now. May save you some headaches down the road.

I stated only the smith could tell you but you could always do a chamber cast. Still easier to ask.
I picked up a Stiller in 6BR a couple of years ago that Clay Spencer had built. It has a .262 neck (never again) it was chambered in the old school Remington chamber. I noticed the difference in the accompanying brass length difference in my new lapua and got to measuring the chamber and discovered the MAX length of the case was 1.540 similar to the 7mm BR case. I think this chamber was based on a necked down 7mm BR case Remington made. Good luck finding those.
This Remington chamber can be modified to accommodate lapua @0200 line, and I did that, at my own risk, accurate as all get out now with lapua. This was after trying the “small base dies” , “ring dies” along with every other suggestion found, still had “clickers” with light loads.
It still pains me to cut .030-..040” off the length of a new piece of brass then turn about 1/3 of neck wall off knowing with a different chamber I wouldn’t have to.
Just my experience. Just ask and request a copy of reamer print.

I've got three Savage based 6mmBR's that I've built, two small shank model 12 actions, one large shank. Don't let anyone tell you that they can't shoot as well as the high priced rifles, they'll shoot at least as well as most marksmen are able. I've used Shilen, X-caliber and Brux barrels in mine, and they're all shooters.

If you're worried about bullet seating, the best thing to do is to make a dummy round with Lapua brass and your bullet of choice seated so that the heel of the bullet is just above the neck/shoulder junction. Give this to the gunsmith that chambers your barrel so he can set the throat depth exactly where you want it. That way you get maximum life out of your loads as you chase the lands forward as the barrel erodes.

The 8 twist is good for 80 to 108 gr bullets, so choose carefully when setting up initially. You'll be glad you did. Availability is an issue right now so start out with what you can get. The 107 SMK is fairly available and a good starting point with Varget and a CCI450, 400, or 205M primers.

Good luck! and if you're already in a club shooting matches, you'll see the true value of the 6mmBR.

I bought one of the UR Remage barrels; Works well with Lapua brass (I'm assuming similar specs for the Savage drop-in barrel's chamber.)

Well I got my 6BR put together. Thanks to @urbanrifleman for the barrel and several members here for the dies and brass. I did a simple load up of Varget and 87gr Vmax blems from Midway and wouldn't you know, it shoots like a laser. Can't wait to wring this thing out to some longer distances but damn was it fun to stack rounds in the same hole. Thanks to everyone for the advice and encouragement. I can't believe it took me this long to find this round.
