.264WM Elk load?

I am kind of fond or nosler bullets. I will save the performance for the hunting section.
I have a pre64 M70 264WM and loading it for Elk,Black bear, deer. Mainly if i wil the Pa elk lottery
researching nosler site i come up with attached bullets and data...
140NP
130AB
140AB
129LRAB
142LRAB
150LRAB
i know the gun was designed to shoot stepped down bullets. and wondering what to choose.
hopefully from someone that is really using what they are recomending.
or stick to old reliable like a 140gr Winchester game point?
i printed all the load data from nosler20210906_143755.jpg

i would like to stay with 129/130 but that eliminates the partition.
then of to what is available

anybody have a pet nosler load for the 264WM for elk?
or stick to the 30-06?
save the 264 for deer?

i am thinking the same! but are they still making the partition 140 in .264?
i did not like the 180 accubond i tried in .30
couldnt get them to fly nice

I shoot a Bull Elk 264wm at apx 330 yards with a 120gr barnes triple-shock x, not one step droped in his tracks.

What is the twist rate? If 1-8 the 140 grain bullets should stabilize if slower they may not. I have taken quite a few whitetails with the 130 AB and always had good performance those bullets that I recovered had weight retention north of 70% and a nce mushroom shape. Granted Elk have much larger bones so your mileage may very if you hit a shoulder.

I happen to like some of the Nosler bullets myself. In fact, I think the Nosler 140 gr. Partition is eminently suited to the use you desire in the .264 Win. Mag. which is where I use it. Just because Nosler prints out some distinctly questionable loads does not mean that you can't start a test for this bullet using your equipment and powder choices.

Besides the 140 gr. Partition, there is the 135 gr. Berger Classic Hunter which performs well with my loads in my equipment. Both have harvested game including elk for years. Bullet placement and a properly developed drop chart should be your guide.

And if you find yourself needing or wanting to shoot solids, the 124 gr. Hammer Hunter has worked well in my tests.

Here is a decent thread from 2013 covering this question quite well:

Enjoy your search!;):)

Interesting read.
sure is alot of praise of the 140Berger! interesting enough, i have @ 1000 of them for my 6.5x47.
i shoot alot of deer and love them!!!!
also also #2
my friends hammer deer with them also BUT my bud smacked a bear with one 1/4 to him and away it went!!!!
sucked. 6.5x47 140hunting VLD!???
they dont like heavy bone going in!
the 264 can run the 140 @ 200fps faster and i want to punch through!!!!!
this is not for long range as no way it will match my 6.5x47 for accuracy.
my 6.5 has a 8.5tw and i "think" the M70 is 9tw ?
need to look into that.

shot was in front of the close leg into the chest
@250yds.
into the front brisket.
no blood at all and no bear

ALSO, the 140VLD is a pretty long bullet for a controlled feed factory gun.
as may the 129 LRAB?
back to the reloading bench.
140NP seems to be the pill.
i have retumbo,h1000,h4831
i dont want to shoot all copper, this bad boy deserves good lead.
maybe scirroco or Aframe?i would love to keep recoil down and speed as not to kill this barrel. it will not be blowing flames out the end!

My .264 WM, choices,..
140 Part's to, 450- 500 yds,..
140 Berger HVLD's or 135 Classic Hunters for, a little more "Range" if, desired easily, 600 - 700 yds is doable,..
IF, you are, "up to it" !
Read too many reports of, LRAB's being tough, to get,.. good, "Accuracy" !
Regular 140 AB's in a .270 WSM, didn't Impress me, as they seem "Hard" ( a small peeled back, Mushroom ) and my last Elk stayed on his feet for, a couple of Minutes and I "thought" of, shooting him,.. AGAIN !
150 gr. ELD-X's didn't work, real well either, for my son as it took, 3 shots at 250 yds to Kill his Bull with, a 7mm-08 !
BOTH of us, are shooting Bergers, now !
Be SURE to keep the Hollow Point, CLEAN and free of, Debris or, they might, .."Pencil thru" !

You don't "Need" to "Punch thru" an Elk to Kill him,.. JUST "Scramble" his Heart / Lung area and He ain't going,..
very far ( usually straight DOWN ! ). Be SURE to USE only, HVLD's or Classic Hunters ! Sadly, a lot of people use, the THICKER Jacketed, Newer styled,.. "Target" Berger's, And wonder, what went wrong !

I say the 140 gr. Partition is your best bet. I killed an elk with an early Winchester 140 grain Power Point factory load. Well before I got all into reloading and shooting for fun other than matches. Perfect broadside hit just behind the shoulder. He ran 50 yards and went down. I remember catching the heart as it fell out of the chest cavity when we dressed it. Bullet mostly made it to the far side and found under the hide. One of those well the bullet didn't fail but I wasn't impressed things.

I shoot 120/130 barnes out to 300 yards. If over that, i like 140 partition or the 130 accubond, though id love to try some of the federal terminal ascent or edge tlr.

im loading with 7828ssc or ramshot magnum

That retumbo you have will make some terrific loads. 4831 isnt the greatest choice for the 264. Its been my experience that slower is much better

i am heading past Cabellas WV tomorrow to Ky for a Bourbon/horse track tour. Wife needs to load up on candy! I will be in the bullet section.
I am doubting i will need past 300yds. It has a weaver V9 3x9
if i need long as previously stated, i will bring out the 6.5x47 140VLD HUNTING. not tgt! and i am "up to it" for LR.
i have a 855yd antelope kill with 6.5x47 ,my buddy beat me at 917yds. we are heading back out end of this month to hopefully beat that.

all Cabellas was good for was their candy!!!!!!
Ky was a blast!!!
we went 5 for 5 on Wy speedgoats, all real nice.
450uds was farthest wind was a huge factor this trip!
