Peterson Brass

Yes I think you're right. I'll have to contact Peterson brass and the dealer I bought them from.

I got a 10 power jeweler's glass to inspect the neck mouths, the brass isn't peened over just a large irregular burr from what looks like a dull cutter, or the brass was loose in the clamp when the cases were trimmed to length. Pretty ugly whatever the cause. I'd have to deburr the whole works and run them through a mandrel neck sizer before I load them. The last hundred I got were spot on and I just loaded them right out of the box without doing anything to them other than measuring. I remeasured all the cases in both boxes with three calipers and the majority are under the trim to length.
Could you post a pic? Thanks.

Yes, I did have my hopes up. winter of 2018 they teased with 270 and 300 wsm. I emailed Peterson for an ETA but could never get a date. Keep hearing it was in development. Then we get this thread and it sounded like it might materialize...But now it dosent sound good. Can't make WSM brass but they make 7.62x54R, 33XC and Cheytac. I get people need good brass but picking these over WSM brass? I wish Lapua or ADG would come thru. Rant over!!!!
As someone who owns three rifles that shoot 7.62x54r brass ; and considering the literally millions or so Mosin-Nagants and SVD's imported into this country in the last forty or fifty years , I find it refreshing that Petersen is addressing the demand for these shooters . They are in business to make money , and when you compare the "sales" of 7.62x54r market , to the "sales" of many of the "Boutique" wildcat cartridge's , is it any wonder they would select producing one over the other ? I've read every post on this thread , and seen requests for brass I've never heard of before , so why should those small market , limited-use calibers go to the front of the production R&D line ? And since my M-N's eat about 3,000 rounds a year , I'm happy to be able to get high quality American made brass to feed them , too . Thanks Petersen .

Reached out to both the dealer and Peterson. Dealer told me to contact Peterson, that wasn't much help, Peterson didn't respond. I noticed the saami specs for 6.5 CM have the cartridge length at 1,920 -20. Even if most of my new cases are below the 1.910 trim spec. they are still within the saami spec.of 1.900 I trimmed them down to 1.908, there are a few shorter but not many. I then deburred them and loaded them up. I bought 100 I was happy with and 100 I wasn't happy with. I'll try once more, stuff happens. If the next batch is good I'll keep buying them if the next batch is like this one I go to a different maker.

i just opened my 1st box of peterson brass. 50 of 6br— i weighed them all and wrote weights down on a chart. they were all within a grain and i was able to pick 25 within a half grain. doesnt look like the flash holes need deburring- length of all i measured was just under trim to length. Checked base to shoulder with my bump gauge and it was less than my fired brass in this gun so i just ran a mandral through them and now ill load them up. Everything about them seems very consistent. So far Thanks Peterson

There is a huge need in quality .300WSM brass. I don’t know why Peterson, Alpha, ADG, or even Lapua has not brought high quality .300 WSM brass to the marketplace. It is the guys that want competition proven brass who buy the top brands…so listen to people on this forum. Consult some actual competitive shooters in Benchrest, F Class, and PRS and listen to their recommendations as to which calibers they use and would like to see produced by the US brass makers.

Quality WSM brass would outsell .22 Creedmoor for instance. Whoever brings it to market will not be able to make enough of it to meet the demand.

ADG will have 300wsm brass by the end of the year, there's some members on here testing it right now. I agree though, while Norma brass isn't bad, the likes of Peterson and ADG are a step up. It would be nice to have more choice in a world of ever shortening supply of quality reloading components.
