Yes, but whether or not its properties are in that hithertofore nonexistent range is yet to be determined.

The point of my search has been to find a powder with a perfect balance of properties to allow a reloader to achieve max velocity with 30 cal heavies in a 308 w/o excessive pressures and the resultant short brass life and still meet the precision needs to be competitive in F class. To date I have not found it to exist except in one fast lot of H4350.

Seriously, have you ever tried any of the less commonly-used F-TR powders with burn rates a little slower than Varget, such as AA4064, N150, Vectan Tubal 5000, Norma 203B, etc.? I recently bought some AA4064 to try. I think it will work as a substitute for Varget in rifles that have sufficient freebore, but it occupies slightly more case volume and has slightly lower energy than Varget, so I don't see it as being any "better" than Varget. Unfortunately, most of those powders are even harder to come by right now than Varget, so it's not a good time to be doing that kind of testing unless you already had some prior to the current shortage.

Oddly enough I found N150 about 6 yrs ago (wow, has it been that long:eek:) when I was looking for something else. That's when I discovered that all the burn rate tables for N150 are out to lunch. The loads that most of us running N150 are shooting are so close to Varget loads that it could almost be w/i lot to lot variances. Just for reference, the 2017 lot of N150 I'm currently loading is 44.0 to hit the mid 2600 node. The other problem with N150 is that it's really bulky. You aren't getting more than 44.5 or .6 in a case with a bullet. (OK, I did have a barrel that would take 45, but the bullets only had about .050 engagement on the bearing surface) All that said, I've been shooting N150 exclusively in competition since 2015. It works great with the 200s, but it's on the fast side for the 215s which is what I was searching for at the time.

The quest was to find something that would run 215s at good velocity and not break brass. I had a fast lot of H4350 back then that I could load 48.5gr behind a 215 in WW brass and run them 2550+ and not break the brass, then I changed powder lots and lost 75FPS, and I could not get enough in the case to get back to where I wanted to be. I think I still have ~10 lbs of the stuff with no use for it. (chuckles as the 284/6.5/6mm crowd tried to figure out how to get it from me)

I haven't tried AA4064, Vectan Tubal 5000 or Norma 203B. I did pick up some IMR4451 but never got around to testing it. Conversations with the 6.5/6mm guys indicated that it was probably too bulky for what I was seeking.

The ideal powder here should be able to get 215s close to 2600ish, and the 200s to the 2725 node w/o hammering the brass. I know some very good shooters who do run the 20x up there, but I've never had success that that node with N150.

So this could be very close to or slightly faster than how VV550 behaves? I havent played with new lots of VV550 to see if there is temp stability built in.
 
So which powder is comparadle enough that i could find a decent start load without blowing myself up?
Cause i KNOW, Alliant isn't going to release data on it for the 250 Savage!
 
I grabbed some from PV and received it over the weekend.
Just for reference, I filled a piece of virgin alpha 6bra brass to the bottom of the neck and came up with 31.3 grns. Didn’t use a drop tube, so I’m thinking once fire formed and taking the time to settle the powder, you could get a few more tenths in the case.
Just from a quick look, it’s a little “bulkier” powder, similar but not exactly like RL16. The kernels are cut shorter.
Seems like it will be a good fit for the 6XC & X47 cases.
I’ve heard a few guys at the range talk about how they’d like to get a touch more case fill in a dasher so may work well for it also.

I noticed it yesterday too. Every time it has come available I have been where there is no cell service, so I have been poking their site in case it pops up, then saw I had trouble even seeing it last night. Hope that doesn't mean it will be a long dry spell...
