Here’s what separates the men from the amateurs like me. Check out the reflection. Flat is FLAT. The body lines are perfect. The transitions are smooth as Zack’s new baby’s backside. AND you can’t get your bumper painted for what Bumpkin charges. I aint trying to sell anyone chit, it sells itself. Trust me, candy’s aren’t easy.
Thanks Brother, you did an amazing job yourself painting this stock yourself. I was impressed with your results using Spray Max Aerosols, to the point of being intimidating.
Don't laugh at my metal polishing when you see it. Lol

A few shots of Zacks custom rudder getting stock blended for a perfect fit.
I'm not going to show Zack's ingenious method of making the solid foundation before milling.

When I grow up, you know I want to drive one of these babies!!

This 1 belongs to Travis Massie aka @Va222rem, rudder design and gunsmith is none other than
Zack Donovant @WSMNUT
Old Dominion Custom Rifles.
Stock was originally painted by Kevin @Hntndad, I suspect he'll be re polishing the metal.
Travis n Zack shot the Rendezvous a couple months back where Travis took home some serious hardware in the 600 yard.
Just like any hot rod it was in the shop for some body mods, and a fresh coat of paint. Paint was matched to Kevin's original color of Sky blue candy over silver.
Trust me the slightest imperfections are telegraphed in this color.
Well she's ready to get glued n screwed, and with a lil bit of tuning will debut at the 600yard national's. View attachment 1276525View attachment 1276528View attachment 1276530
really sharp classy looking rifle fellas, but something that has caught my eye as I scroll this thread is the mention of "rudder design" I don't dispute someone else physically producing this rudder or mimicking another because the design and function are sound and have helped many clean up performance of a given stock with issues, but the design size, length, and "overall geometry" surprisingly mimics another rudder design of which I have a half dozen in my shop at minimum that are precisely this i would love to know all the critical lengths and cuts . maybe a case of mistaken origin maybe not but this doesn't take away from the form and function this rifle will kick ass I am sure.

Duplicating a paint job is one thing, but taking my rudder and calling it your design is getting ridiculous.

Interesting thought, but so you know the rudder was designed around the ST1000F stock not the LRB. There are several dimensional changes that make it fit the ST1000F. Just measure an ST1000 compared to the LRB and you’ll notice pretty quickly that the two are not interchangeable.
I never claimed to be make the first rudder for any stock. I’m not sure who made the first rudder and don’t care. I’ve seen many rudders on stocks from ST1000’s to JB1000, Tooley MBR etc..

I have made them for many stocks including the st1000. In fact that stock is the reason for it, before an LRB existed. But you know exactly what I mean.

I’m not sure anyone clearly understands what you mean, Alex.
No one claimed in this post or any other to be the originator of a “rudder design”. Not sure anyone really cares. Let’s be big boys and just say what you mean.

I would agree as to the differences and have modifyed rudders to mait with many stock designes as well, I witness often on these threads people throwing "claim" and I'm also aware you did not claim to this fact nor do I dispute the origin, very similar was the observation similar enough to raise a eye brow. As much as it "Doesn't matter" at times "it really does" I have found. A sound design I would agree most. thanks for the clearafication good luck Running the bags

Thanks Shawn, it was a necessary creation for an ST1000F on one of my own personal stocks. The stock was shaped like a banana and I could never get it to track the way I wanted. I’ve seen many rudders and have made several but I wanted the rudder to fit the stock perfectly and flow in and out of the body lines to not take away of the beauty of the ST1000F.

I've seen people take Alex Wheeler's actual rudder on one of his LRB stocks and flip them upside down (invert them) for a wider contact area with the rea bag. And from that, I've seen others use their CNC machines and modify the "original" rudder on an LRB stock by attaching a 1 1/2 - 2" flat base on it for greater stability.

In this thread BC'Z said "Zack's custom rudder" which is obviously customized (and fabricated) for a different stock. It would be less so if he was using an actual LRB rudder and simply modifying it and then claiming design. I haven't read that.

Some of those changes have even been referred to as being "Wheelerized." I don't think anyone is stealing your thunder or laying claim on here to your achievements Alex. Everyone gets ideas from somone else. I still refer to finding my lands and headspace for brass by using the "Wheeler Method" even if people were using those same methods long before you posted videos on it.
