What are your opinions on prefit barrels?

Nevertheless...I have to stick with Mike on this one. Undoubtedly, shooters/competitors may get sterling performance out of "pre-fit barrels"...at least a lot of you make that claim, and I will not dispute it.

But, for me, I don't want to worry about my brass not fitting chamber-to-chamber on follow-on barrels? I will yield to all of you "pre-fitters" that have not experienced that dour problem with your brass, chamber-to-chamber on pre-fit barrels. Yet, your success in that area will not have convinced to try pre-fit barrels.

I would be keenly interested in knowing "who" (or just the number of competitors will do) within the top 50 F-Open shooters in the US that use pre-fit barrels. (Calling up Kelbly's and telling them that it's time for a new barrel will not count as a pre-fit barrel, when they are holding your unique reamer.)

I have (4) 6BRs and my brass will fit every gun . I headspace semi tight on a piece of brand new brass . I take fired brass and bump shoulder .002 , and it will fit every gun . I only use Shilen and Criterion pre fits from Northland Shooters Supply . Works for me !

I got brass that was used in two other barrels that were chambered by another smith and they fit in my PVA shouldered prefit just fine.

How about the people who haven't used prefits and don't like them not use them and the people who have actually used them and like them continue to use them and then everyone will be happy. LOL

Hey Wolf precision are local by me i took his shooting school and had a fireing pin bust on me and he let me use one of his rifles with that system on it it did dam good he took it home that day changed stocks changed it to a 284 and took a 12 point buck its cool system

Like Bell helmets add used to say if you got a $10.00 head put it in a $10.00 helmet. If you have a Bat or Kelby action the best barrel and the best gunsmith is what you want. They are fine for anyone playing. None of the top shooter in cooperation use prefit barrels and there is a good reason why. The winners aren't shooting them.
Isn’t the old saying about the 3 Bs ? Bullets, barrel , bedding ? Don’t see action in there anywhere . Doesn’t action just hold the rear of the case ? And most top shooters have money and can afford the best ! Not everyone can .

And the one's that have the talent are being paid by those that do have the money. They get 10 barrels sent to them and the cherry pick them. if those are good enough they get another 10 until they find a dinger. That is just what Tubbs does.

What does he do now? Explain that again?

Quoted for just this situation. Lol Some will never accept them unless every 1000 yard BR guy is using them to win. To most people that means nothing. Like them then use them. Don’t like them then don’t use them.

Since OP actually mentions Wolf's ACE system, I'm going to assume that he never did mean nutted prefits, but instead shouldered prefits.
I realize a lot of gun smiths are just failed machinists, but any machinist/gunsmith worth his tools will have no problem reading a tenon print from an action manufacturer that holds their headspace to a thou or less, and giving you whatever chamber you want, in your prefit, without ever seeing the action.
