Varmint hunting on the cheap

I got one of those things as a Xmas gift a couple years ago and totally thought it was a gag gift or a joke, UNTIL, I used it a few times just messing around with it and I have to admit it was pretty fun. Took me a few shoots to dial in my distance because I was getting to close but once I got it figured out I was a fly shooting SOB! :)
yeah those are fun. my kids got me one for my birthday....i have to fight em to get a chance to use it. i guess it is cheating to use a shotgun....lol

You sir are a cruel, sick, man. But you have a great sense of drama.
At first I thought it was like a paid hunt in a high fence. Then I reconsidered and thought of it more like trapping. Lay the bait. Wait, wait...check the trap, collect your "fur"...or gut smear, whatever the case may be!

My day at the range (fly shoot) is posted under "what did you shoot today?" thread....

I am tickled to see that I am not the only one that has been thoroughly entertained by shooting flies and wasps. As long as some insect hugging group doesn't find out about our derangement we'll be alright. I have had a grin on my face reading every post!

According to my wife I was having a little to much fun with my BUG-A-SALT gun because she took it away from me and said I couldn't have it back for awhile. WTF I don't know what she was so upset for I was providing a service by keeping all the flies off of the food but I guess she didn't like seeing them laying around the table flipped upside down.

On a side note, I see they have a new CO2 powered one. Hmmmm may have to look into one of those babies. :)

Wellll maybe I didn't quite tell y'all the full story. I shot one that was maybe just a little to close to my wife's plate and when it flipped up on her plate she got really pissed and said that's it your done and took it away from me. Sheesh, it was an honest accident. I even offered to get her one of her own but she gave me the "ya, not interested" face. Pfft whatever....

Yep. Women seem to lose their sense of humor right after the "I do" part.

I used to have a Remington PSS in 223 Rem, which was a one of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever got stupid and sold, but getting to shooting insects. I used to attach a target up backwards so as to have the blank side showing and dab honey on it randomly and shoot from a bench at 100 yards at one of the local state run gun ranges. One summer day I was at this gun range during a week day by myself amusing myself by busting flys when another shooter shown up with custom built rifle in 22-250 AI. He asked for a ceasefire to put up a target, so we both walked down range so I could check my target. I remember this guy asking about my rifle and I was boasting about how accurate it is and when I said it was a fly buster and he saw all the random bullet holes he gave a dubious look until I point to bits of fly parts stuck to paper. After he shot some sighters he and I spent the rest of that shooting session busting flys with are rifles. This guy and I ended up having a small wager as to who could have the most conservative hits on flys. I won with him giving me one cartridge of his loaded 22-250 AI to add to my cartridge collection.

Tell her the surroundings got lost in the fog of war and you had tunnel vision from the adrenaline dump

I got two hornets and one ant at 25 yds with my airgun with five shots. There were a lot of things in my favor which I will explain. First off, there has to be gut splatter on the tgt for me to claim a hit. The hornets were horizontal on the tgt which helped take out some of the guess work on the wind. The ant gave me two shots and it was just plain luck I got it on the second shot. Anyway, I have searched how to attract more of these critters and I will let you know how I make out with that. I just wish the air rifle would put five shots in one hole but not to be. No wind I feel I am lucky to get a 1/2 inch group. Sometimes I get three shots cutting each other then two out. Is it the wind? I don't know how much a 5 mph breeze moves a 11 gram pellet in 25 yds. Then add in the wind is variable. Again, a whole lot of luck but very satisfying when I get a hit.
Anyone shooting open sights out to some distance at GH?

Sounds EXACTLY like my household. A guy just can't get a break for hardly anything. ;)
