Bat B

Alex, just wondering with the Bat MST and model B ports, (3” feed & 2.2” ejection) would this work with the WSM & SAUM cases?
Or would need a slightly longer ejection port?
Thank you
Ken

What stocks will fit this action, Alex? I assume Kelbly's but not positive.
Thanks, Dave

Looks like McMillan will inlet for this

Ok...question from a NON GUNSMITH. What is the advantage of a flat bottom action?

Tod
I do like flats for bedding, even for glue ins the square shape gives more surface area. Its also the heaviest configuration that comes with an integral rail.

Thanks Alex,
For your reply, it’s what l will look at building, Bat MST action Flat bottom with “B” ports in one of your solid fill LBR stock in 300/7mm SAUM Imp HG.
Alex, your thoughts on using 28” long 1.350” diameter barrels, with the action screw & glued into the the stock. I like the idea of the flat bottom action.
Thank you for your thoughts

If you envision closing the bolt handle on a round action, the action screws basically alone, stop the action from rotating. Most recoil lugs only make contact on their back, not the bottom or sides.

On a squarish flat bottomed action, the flat on the bottom, and flat sides of the action against the sides of the stock, inherently stop the action from rotating. You could close the bolt with no action screws being in place.

When action screws feel pressure cycles from multiple directions, they are more likely to loosen up.

How about a multiflat? I have 3 round BAT's and one "multiflat".

In terms of resisting rolling, it’s hard to beat a square, fitted well into half of another square, but a multi-flat comes close. Rolling effect is not just from the bolt opening and closing, but torque on firing as well.

There’s really nothing wrong with a round action, just to clarify, but you do get more steel on a given width, for strength and weight, with square than round.

Winchester always touted its square bottomed actions relative to the round competition’s.
