Hodgdon Powders at $50/lb -- New Norm?

IF any of you are around Rome Ga. the “country sportsman” has a lot of powder. Limit #2 per person per day but h4350 & varget are $49.99 LB. They do have it but I’m not in that much of a need. Lol, I walked out empty handed.
Main reason for posting, y’all think this price will remain from now on, or is this just local gouging?

That's not that far off the shelf price Bass Pro/Cabelas was charging before all the panic buying. Last pound I bought at Bass Pro was around $45 and that was back in Feb.

Prices will fall with reduced demand. The cost of manufacturing and distributing has only risen a few percentage points, normal increases with inflation, so I expect top retail prices to settle in around $45 for one pound cans once all the foolishness passes.

I would think price gouging. I found a pound of powder was looking to try at a local shop last week. Was 31.xx including sales tax.

My local gun store is not a chain it is a very small one off mom and pop place and I’ve been paying $50 for a couple years on certain powders

Sounds like normal supply+demand stuff. (AKA, charging what the market will bear, locally.)

A nearby shop has had 1lb jugs (and the occasional 8lb jug) of H4350, RL-16, along with a number of others suitable for pistol and shotgun. Doesn't always last long, but most of the frequenting customers are reloaders and seem to have plenty themselves, so some of those jugs can be there for quite some time. It's fun to see. You know, an actual inventory shelf with some inventory on it. Makes me feel good, just knowing they've got some.

It’s not hard to abstain from paying high prices when you have what you need. It’s a lot more difficult when your just beginning or just keep a limited supply on hand and then run out. Then how much you pay changes rapidly for many. Hard to play hardball when you really need what is sitting in front of you.

Hopefully prices will eventually return to earlier levels, but I'm afraid with things like the minimum wage increases and the general inflation we're seeing prices will only fall to the level that the combined production and distribution system allow it to. My expectation is about a 25% permanent increase over the preshortage levels.
