Wait times for Barrels and Actions

I wanted to post this as a general FYI as I have quite a few customers get caught off guard. I think most of us did. Things like actions and barrels that were coming in at 3-4 months are now 8-9 months or even a year. This happened almost over night it seems. So for those that may not know whats currently happening, if your needing a barrel or action, stock, ext. things are not what they used to be. Order it now, as you are going to be waiting. Just a heads up.

Yeah, my Shilen that was supposed to be 12 weeks is now at 16 weeks. With expected delivery in yet another 2 weeks.

I'm hearing others that have ordered barrels last month(June), not Shilen being told Feb-April next year.

I would be looking at Hart rifle barrels. You can usually get them fairly quick and every one I have had is a tac driver. Just a thought.

From what I hear its demand mostly. With the shut downs a lot more people have taken up new outdoor hobbies. Combine that with fear of gun control.

Alot of barrel manufacturers have posted that on some forums. I've found that out from some action manufacturers as well. Stocks have been behind for well over a year. Hell, even gunsmiths are logged back from a year ago. You'd think with barrel, action and stock companies being so slow, that a gunsmith could catch up and get guys in that have their barrels and actions already. Not so.

I just sent an Husqvarna Mauser to Douglas barrels and they fitted it to my action and had it in the mail back to me in 4 days.

Thanks for the heads up Alex. I need to get a couple couple rifle packages ordered. I was gonna wait but I think I’ll order now based on those time lines. Looking at Bat, Kreiger, Brux, Manners and McMillan.

I was fortunate in that @Chris Mackey had exactly what I wanted and was able to get it in less than 2 weeks! Not always the case but good for me this time!

FYI. About 6 weeks ago Shilen delivered a 223 blank in 4 weeks.

Because of this very concern I jumped on a barrel from Krieger last week because it was on the shelf; backup for next year.

I have 223w, 223a, 6br, 6bra and 6xc Stainless Remage prefits in stock. I can make a Savage prefit in 7-10 days if we have a reamer. I can also get blanks. If that helps.

My barrel maker is running out of material at the mill level, because nearly all of the ingots for the entire western world come from China now. We don't dig out our own ore anymore.
