I can’t believe a medical provider asked about guns in my house

I agree with this statement but also working fire department for so many years you could add a woman putting on makeup while on the way to work (or anywhere else), "so sir, does your wife wait until she is driving to put on makeup?" Oh, and the list goes on and on.
One reason why I stopped riding motorcycles on paved streets. The crap you see is surreal. Once saw a woman in the car next to me, curling her eyelashes while doing 40 down Canyon Rd.

@F Class John , Orygun has the Red Flag laws. Have Kate's Brown Shirts visited you yet? :rolleyes: :mad::D

I remember my mother ripping my new pediatrician a new butthole for asking her that in late 80s or early 90s, in Texas. It’s not a new question.

My old Pakistani woman doctor ask if I had any "weapon" In the house.
I said I have a bunch of kitchen knives, an axe, baseball bat, rope (for the occasional lynching) rocks sticks..... at this point she said stop stop.
I've always found that question, strange. My usual response is, "Anything can be a 'weapon'; my shoestrings for instance."

Those questions ? Part of the government control thing? :rolleyes:
BUT, I can see some of those questions being asked of some folks that may be reluctant to say anything because they may live with an a** h**e that may abuse them.

This is a true story .
On a pre Hospital check in I was taken in a Room very small . I was sat down in a school like desk chair . A Nurse started asking many questions. She did ask the Do you have Guns in the House ? I was slow to respond, then said No , but I do have a Tank in the Barn . The look on Her face was priceless. Then She said Mr. Crigler this is important and my job , please be compliant. I replied I am I can’t get the Tank out of the Barn . This end the questions and the Nurse left the room . Operation was a success.

I don’t normally post stuff like this but my mother lives with us and during a recent follow up call from her medical provider they asked a number of questions that have now become pretty standard. Questions such as do you feel safe in the house, do you feel depressed or lonely but a new question that has been added is a very direct one asking if she owns a gun or has guns in the house. WTF business of it is theirs.
They are doing this in Minnesota as well. I just don't check any box.

The only thing my medical providers ask is "Get Any new guns??" "What ya been shootin?" "Found any ammo?"

This started with the CDC a long time ago, and Obama embraced it in the "ACA". AFAIK, though, no one has disputed the charges if the question is not asked.

The ultimate tragedy, though, is that rather than focusing on your specific medical problems, and doing a careful physical exam, a lot of providers just look at the computer and check off boxes, and yeah, a certain number of those boxes are required in order to send a bill. Very different from the way we were taught to diagnose and treat by actually focusing on the patient.

That's why it was sad that when Trump was elected the Rs didn't have a plan ready on day 1 to replace the ACA. They had 8 years to get it ready, but chose to just rail about Obama NoCare rather than go on offense.
The same group that talked about the upcoming election, 2 years away, being fraudulent and after getting their heads handed to them re-elected the same woman to lead them for 4 more years. I see a pattern here.I imagine good Drs. being very frustarated and potential Drs choosing a different field.

It's not, of course. No more than whether you have a lawn mower in the shed, or a good long two-handled hedge trimmer, or a couple of steps down from the front porch, or ...

To them, though, everything about remaining alive is a "health" question.

Of course, with arms, it's the politics driving such pap. They've drunk the Nanny State brand Kool-Aid and won't spit it out.

The answer is a simple no. Have you received the vaccine? The answer is yes. The doctrine of deception is a little talked about teaching of the Bible that will need to come back into play in these times. Basically, it is the practice of deceiving, lying or mis-leading God's enemies to advance God's purposes. Rahab lied to Jericho's leaders to protect the Israelite spies, David feigned he was crazy so as to not be recognized by the Philistines. A more modern day example would be the Christians that lied to protect the escaping slaves in the underground railroad or the German Church that was actively involved in shielding the Jews during WWII. We all know why these and many other "policies" are being implemented. It is not because they are concerned for our safety. Jesus said we "must be wise as serpents, but gentle as doves." We must be careful of who, when and how we engage with others. We need to become "tree top flyers" with the current regime that has been installed. The enemies of freedom and liberty now control all three branches of our Federal Government and are acting with impunity to eradicate everything American. Keep your ear to the ground, your eyes wide open, your powder dry, and shore up your faith in the only One who can deliver in this life and the next - Jesus. "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

Ask him/her about their malpractice insurance. Go easy at first.... then ramp it up after they give you the BS about the gun question being SOP. You need to be ready with some figures on how Drs kill more people than guns..... be extremely polite. And leave them with the notion that you're so thankful for asking,that it really piqued the interest in malpractice. Need more?

Ask if it's ok to see their proof of insurance card/certificate. Can I call that insurer to see about claims.... or is that private?

If everyone started questioning these dipchits,they.... AND their insurer would wise up.
I don't know...in today's climate might be better off to stay of the radar and just say "no"

Couple things come to mind AS;

Recently I believe it was the current transportation secretary? comment on the pipeline hacking.... "this wouldn't be a problem if everyone drove electric cars"(that's the gist).

It's NOT ABOUT THE OIL you dumba$$... it's about hacking. So,not only am I concerned about who's going in some gun database.... heck,my prostate problems ain't for sale neither.

The other is;

When you really dig into the time period when this question started showing up,look at how Federal prosecutors were WAY OVERSTEPPING their boundaries with convictions. Then look at how the medical/pharmaceutical industry was being harrassed by these extremely vague federal "laws". You would be found innocent of prescribing say a blue pill,but the "obstruction" case that came after saw your a$$ in jail. IMO,this is where the question got it's roots. Well,that doesn't make a hill of beans to me.... you still aren't within the general sense of the law asking.

If this isn't the case,then why do Drs not really care what you check off?

Every pediatrician is going to ask about pools. Every primary care doctor should be asking about alcohol use. Asking about guns is just another screening question, it’s not political and it’s not some sinister plot. Flipping out isn’t going to help anything.
Now...perhaps...but it is always what people in absolute power will do...would you say it would be an easy thing to get the data base, sort by answer yes, and within seconds come up with a list of gun owners. And then ... just "for discussions sake " cause this could never happen - in a blue state with one of these red flag laws someone just starts dropping anonymous alerts about so and so who may be a danger to themselves or others, and so umm...but yeah you are right...crazy to think such things
