Remington 700 6mm BR Norma

Probably going to regret this post but I have a question concerning a Remington 6mm benchrest build. I have a couple of recently blue printed Rem 700 actions. I also have a Criterion 6mm BR Norma barrel in a Remage setup with a 1-7 twist. All this will be installed in a custom pillar bedded laminated stock. What type of accuracy should I expect with 105-108 gr. Match bullets and do you think this setup is a possible 600 yd. F class competitor?

Why would you regret asking a question?

You have a good shot at doing fine. A 1:7 for the Berger 105 has an SG of 1.84 at typical speeds.
I see no reason you won't be able to tune into a load that will be competitive.

The only limiting factors should be your abilities as a shooter and reloader. As it has been stated many times before, the gun will shoot better than you can.

Did the blueprint include bushing the firing pin, otherwise you will probably run into problems with blanking/cratering primers, which will limit the speed you can run.

I am a newbie so I know why you said what you did but this gentlemanly forum seems to be above all that. That is why I chose to become a member. Now after my verbose preamble the reason I am inputting my two cents is when talking about speeds and rifle build ups and stuff nobody ever mentioned barrel length.To my way of thinking to go from the 26” length to the 30” length should easily pick up the extra speed while staying with the 6BR. I for one, don’t like running at max pressure and heat levels.I would think that 30 grs of Varget behind the 105 gr VLD out of a 30” barrel would give you the speed everyone seems to seek and be easier on throat life. But having been married for a long time I am quite used to being wrong.
Savage produces their mod 12 with a barrel length like 29” I believe and they wouldn’t do it unless it showed enough potential to warrant the cost. I won’t revisit my “wrong statement” above but ditto.

At what yardages will you be shooting? I have a Remington Custom Shop (built at Dakota Arms) 6mmBr Norma built on a 40X action with a 1:8 twist 29" Barrel. Also pillar bedded in a laminated stock and it shoots 90 Lapua and 105 Berger projectiles very well. Not spectacular (probably me) but under 6" at 1,000 yards.

Here’s an interesting test and article on 6BR barrel length. It doesn’t make a huge difference in the straight 6BR.

I have been shooting the same rifle as you r looking to put together for several years now except mine is a 8twist. Mine shoots very well with just about any 105 class bullet I’ve shot. I’ve never had the opportunity too take to 600 but I have won almost every 200 and 300 score match at the local club. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed in how well it shoots at all.

Prefit Remage barrels and blue printing usually don't go together.
Did your gunsmith open up the thread diameter on your action?
Make sure it's safe.

Very interesting and as stated I am used to being wrong, sort of my niche in life. Buuut I would be happier if he had used a selection of powders rather that just the one. What do I know?/. Butt I can’t shake the feeling that if burn rates could be matched to barrel lengths. He chose a fast powder so to my way of thinking that Bullet was slowing down from a point in it’s March down the barrel. 22 rim fire are found to optimize at approximately 18 inches. I realize that is 22RF and we are discussing 6 MM BR.

That is exactly what Greg from Gre-Tan Rifles told me when I wanted him to blueprint my action, so that I can use it for a Remage barrel. Asking questions is a very good idea when considering a build!
